How senior does long call reserve go?

You never see long call except on relief lines, which vary greatly month to month as far as seniority.

Are the relief lines only built when scheduling has everything else covered?

They’re built and bid on the week after regular lines are awarded.

4 months ago when I was on reserve, every trip I was given over 2 months of reserve was at least 10 to 12 hours notice from crew scheduling. Never had a short call.

That’s still short call reserve.

I realize that, just making the point I never had a 2-hour call-out (real 'short call')

How is reserve looking in general ? I assume getting longer

WhiskyWhisky 02-14-2019 11:00 AM

1-2 months on average. Saw some guys go straight to line holder in CAE and MKE lately. Maybe a bit longer in ORD.

Thank you !

Reserve in ORD in December was about a year (to hold a line) It’s going down (I assume) so probably by now should be 10 to 11 months.

If things keep going the way they are, I’ll have a line at 4 months at ORD. I could have a line in MKE (bottom 10%) or CAE (60-75%) if that helps with regards to planning.

Does Air Wisconsin have hot reserve / Airport reserve? Is it common or rarely used?

Yes. Probably the bottom 3-4 reserves in a base will get it.

Exactly it. 3-4 lines per seat per base. One at time max, per seat, per base.

Looking at if that will stay that way in the future, contractually based on the current set up in the crew rooms, they are limited to just one on duty at a time, per seat. Contract states how ready reserve rooms need to be set up. They are set up right now for just one per seat per base. Not that buying more recliners or getting a hotel day room wouldn’t allow them to add more - but they seem set on one and have been for a long time. As an example the ORD ready reserve room is massive and more capacity could be added today if they wanted more RRs. But again there has been no hint of that so I would say the status quo remains. IAD room is too small for more seats, so that would require leasing more space. I have never been in the RR rooms in MKE or CAE to say.

With the new contract and the addition of long call reserve lines what does this mean? How do they work?
