MKE/ORD questions
Hey all,
Can anyone give me an example of what a 3 or 4 day MKE trip looks like? Specifically, do they start or end with a DH to/from ORD with any frequency? I’m thinking of bidding MKE while living in ORD.
Thanks.

It varies
Sometimes you will either start or end with a DH to and from but I don’t recall seeing DH’s on both ends. I also see a lot of start and finishes without any DH’s other than that, they’re usually regular 4 day trips.

Most will either start or finish with a deadhead, even if you get the DH on the front end dropped to start in Chicago (unlikely, because they’re hyper paranoid about morning reserve coverage), you’ll likely return to MKE late enough on day 4 you’ll have to drive or take the train back to Chicago anyway.
In my opinion, living in Chicago, I’d rather be a Chicago reserve than a MKE lineholder.

I wouldn’t say “most” trips have a deadhead on either end. I would say that “some” do. My experience has been that most days are working both ends. On the occasional day with a deadhead, scheduling won’t release you because you are essentially being used as a ready reserve for that flight. Recently, there has been an increase in the number of ORD folks getting sick of sitting on reserve and picking up an MKE line for a few months simply to bring a little stability into their schedule. Then after a few vacancy notices go by, they flip back to ORD line which generally has later starts and earlier finishes. The drive through the miserable construction by Kenosha/Racine has some thinking twice, but enough are giving it a try to notice.
