What is “junior manning?”

My understanding is that Republic doesnt do it at all but they're the only one I know of. Open flying should always be covered by a reserve pilot first so junior manning will be worst at airlines that dont have adequate reserves. For us that happens to be Captains right now.
They have "junior manning" but that's a terminology holdover from the past... today it just means "voluntary overtime". You don't have to accept it.
But that's for your days off... they can however do almost any sort of reflow within your original trip footprint, and can be pretty creative about it. A few years ago there was a popular long (30-ish hours) overnight at an outstation where a lot of folks lived. The station was close to a big hub, and the company started reflowing folks to work on the "off" day in the middle of the trip.

No one forces you to open the message below ten, just after you get into the gate. The FOM, the FAA approved FOM, is clear about that.
