Unless he busts and it goes chapter 11, but I'm sure such a man has a plan for that scenario also.

I don’t think that he’s pushing a sales pitch, he’s being brutally honest, and the story stinks. Unless demand rapidly returns, cuts will happen. Both the company and ALPA seem to be on the same page about the expected recovery path. Unless the recovery exceeds all expectations, the 757, and most likely the 767 will leave. The regionals operating 50 seaters are going to take it in the teeth also. I fully expect him to try to have things work out in his favor, but ALPA will be doing the same thing for United pilots.

We can sit here and discuss this day in day out but ultimately it comes down to this - AW is a corporation or part of a large corporation and ultimately its all about money.

If canning the 50 seater and investing money somewhere else works for them they’ll do it. Look at the base closures, ultimately all about money.

Corporations let their employees sink because we are expendable.

As an AWAC Alumnus, I haven’t heard that Kirby is interested in the A220 or E195. Breeze Airways is a planned 2021 startup by David Neeleman (JetBlue Founder), it has nothing to do with United.
I feel there will still be a place for 50 seaters flying as United Express, in spite of what Kirby said. They might (I hope) be planning a shift of the 50 seaters out of medium and large city destination markets. Unless it is a hub or there is a good marketing reason for higher frequency, there’s no good reason anymore for Express to fly to larger destination cities like IND DSM OMA ICT TUL OKC BNA ATL PIT CLE CVG CLT and more. Keep the 50 seaters for small and some medium size destination cities. If they bring back mainline service to cities that had it previously, even at a higher per day seat total with less flight frequency than before, passengers will fill that market.
Hang in there AWAC’ers!

I’m not a doomer and I certainly hope I’m wrong, but I’m not going to sit here for 6 months sitting on my hands while we’re flying straight towards a mountain.

I suppose the GPWS could be broken, but right now it’s saying “Caution, Terrain” and you guys are saying “there’s a chance it’s malfunctioning” instead of pulling up.

Yeah but in the current environment what are you going to do? Move on? To what? I say ride the bus till the wheels fall off.

Some cargo is hiring, also a good time to think about going back to grad school or networking in other career fields. There are still moves to be made.

Okay. Have fun with that. Personally, I love flying and won't be switching careers unless there are literally no other jobs. I knew stuff like this could happen when I signed up, so I'm ready to ride it out for awhile.

I like flying but I like having an income more.

Everyone is down on the 50 seat jet - wrong attitude.
People forget that Comair operated a hub and scope out of CVG.
Mainline pilots have too much self interest front and center than see the obvious solution to this crisis
It’s using the RJ’s on mainline routes till they can support Mainline planes.

Sounds like Kirby will be doing another town hall next Friday. Hopefully to shed some more light on the future of 50 seat flying for UAL

Doubtful. It will shed more light on his scope maneuvers and posturing for both that and more government trough money. They don’t have any idea what the demand curve will look like on the other side of this.
