At the time, there were no restrictions in place to prevent the virus from entering the country. Even if flights from China had been halted before, the virus would have probably entered via eventual epicenters in Europe. In fact, the US had started to become a hotspot after Northern Italy became heavily infected.

It’s risk assessment. If I go out and die in a car crash or plane crash or have a motorcycle accident or sky diving accident or trip and hit my head or fall off a ladder or have a tree limb fall on me or get hit by lightning or you get the picture yet. I personally know the risk and I’m just fine with going ahead and living life but that’s me. Let me make the choice and if I get sick and die, well that’d suck but so be it. Time for people to take personal responsibility. Everyone knows someone that’s in a high risk category so before you go and visit them make sure they are okay with it. But let them make choice or you follow your convictions of whether you should stay clear or not.

There’s risk with everything. Life is full of it and I’ll respect people’s space but It’s time to move along. If this thing was as bad as Black Death then I would have a different opinion but then it would actually be a higher risk. I am in the camp of its been overblown and I’m not a fearful person which is what the media thrives on.
^^^^^^ This makes sense to me.

For all the folks in full blown chicken little mode, just keep in mind that 380,000 people have died of traffic fatalities this year alone. That's more than three times as many as the 'Rona. I think driving should be left to the professionals. It's far too dangerous out there on these roads.

Fact check: despite a lockdown, seasonal flu has still killed 18,000 more people than the COV-SARS2. (138,000 vs. 120,000). They're spread through similar means, so why is the regular flu higher if corona is more deadly? Think about it.

I do think the economy should be opened in an intelligent way and obviously it would be great if we could get more testing done. But the evidence suggests the response was blown out of proportion.

Should we prepare better in the future? Yes. Should we continue hoarding toilet paper and sheltering in place? No. My .02

Here Jon Taffer explains what’s going on in the restaurant and entertainment business with the coronavirus. I think it still applies to what may happen with air travel moving forward too. I think he has a lot of valid points about how the consumers are going to behave after all of this is over

that is a global rate which is almost certainlyunderreported due to
countries being unable/unwilling to report. US typical flu season kills about 20k, which this virus has done in a month with lockdowns. Economy “opening up” will cause a second wave if a sizable amount of the population has not been infected. We truly do not know what percent have without mass testing.

tldr: He thinks restaurants and similar will lose 30-40% of their capacity due to continued social distancing. So businesses will make up revenue by squeezing the customers with more upsells.
So for airlines, guess pax can pay to choose where they sit. Guess Spirit was ahead of that curve

Tell that to people who are scared stiff to go out or get on a plane or go to a crowded public place or those that have been financially crippled by this.

This country wasn’t ready for a pandemic before and got overwhelmed and you think post pandemic much will change in a few months? Highly unlikely.

Like I said in another post, this virus caught America with its pants down and butt bare and showed how our resources and leadership pretty much sucked even though we consider ourselves a first world nation.
"resources and leadership pretty much sucked" in comparison with which other nation on the globe?
