Uniform Updates

Rumor is the Karbon jacket is being added to the FOM along with some sweaters being allowed as outer garments...’bout time we got some 21st century jacket options.

I would be absolutely shocked but I seriously hope you’re right. Culturally I just don’t see it happening in ATW.

Check your announcements on CSS...

I wear a karbon jacket and under liner at my new company. So much better than a regular pilot blazer.

How does the jacket compare to the flasher overcoat or leather jacket warmth-wise? Would the liner be necessary for really cold temps?

Never been so happy to be wrong. Goodbye flasher jacket. Thank you ATW Santa.

Well, it's not as bulky for starters. It's every bit as warm with the liner I'd say, maybe more. I stopped bringing my personal jacket with me and just rock the karbon. Less crap to carry around is a perk and the liner doubles as a nice summer jacket that compacts nicely in my bag.

Imapylot 11-30-2020 12:38 PM

They announced the Karbon jacket and mentioned other changes but didn’t say what the other changes are. Why wouldn’t they just list all of the changes so we can make an educated decision on what to spend our uniform money on?

No one is forcing you to spend money today. Just be happy we now have a uniform jacket that doesn’t make us look like we shouldn’t be within 30 feet of a school.

True but I need to spend a large portion of it before the end of December or I’m essentially giving money back to the company come January 1st.

Someone is going to start complaining. Needing heated seats.

 gave me a good chuckle... needed that after the political cancer elsewhere on the forum

Why does the jacket cost more for Air Wisconsin vs just buying the jacket? Who is getting a kickback?

You’re paying for the name tag too.

Imapylot 12-01-2020 07:11 AM

A Southwest pilot would pay $293 for all 3 pieces. An Air Wisconsin pilot pays $309. Interesting.

But you’re still paying more than a Southwest pilot would.

They wear polos, too. What gives, whiskey United?

Imapylot 12-01-2020 08:25 AM

Does any have any experience with these jackets? I’ve never heard of them. Seems expensive for what it is. Are they nice? Are they comfortable? Warm? Waterproof? I’m just looking for an overall review of it and I can’t seem to find much on forums or by googling.

from what I hear people either love or hate them. A southwest guy I talked too said it runs big, so maybe order a size down. He said it’s warm, and works well enough to not have to pack a jacket for his overnights. His main gripe was quality. Said it was starting to fray pretty early and was expensive for what it is.

And Southwest is probably ordering ten times the number of embroidered name tags resulting in a bulk discount from whoever supplied their name patches. Can’t we just be happy about something for once?

The AirWis name tag is $20. The Southwest name tag is $20. The jacket and inner jacket cost more. Also, I never said I was unhappy. I’m just pointing out the fact that we are paying more than Southwest.

pitchtrim 12-01-2020 05:25 PM

Whatever your normal blazer chest size will work out when you look at their size chart fyi.

I’m playing the world’s smallest violin over here. Probably a bulk discount. They’re buying 10x the amount whiskey could. Why does it matter? Stick to the weird trench or the 80’s leather jacket if the extra $10 is a big deal.

It’s $16 extra, not $10. I’m not sure why you’re playing the world’s smallest violin for me. Again, I’m not complaining. I’m just pointing out facts. Southwest pilots pay less than Willy pilots for the same product. Fact.

And sw keeps the employees updated on the state of the company and future opportunities. We don’t have that either 🤣😂

My normal blazer chest size is in between sizes on their chart so if they are true to size then I either buy too big or too small.

Do you also wear a large and a half?

I heard Southwest has several in-between sizes to choose from.

Sort of. I wear a L in some things and a XL in other things. My blazer size is 43. Karbon L is 42 and XL is 44. I’ll just roll the dice with one size and send it back if it doesn’t fit.

I’d order the smaller size if it were me. Guys I’ve talked to who have it say it runs big. YMMV

pitchtrim 12-03-2020 09:47 AM

If I were comparing to my other jackets I wear outside of work I'd say it probably runs on the bigger side. Nothing outrageous. You will have no issues layering up with it.

RabidW0mbat 12-20-2020 03:27 PM

Anyone received their jacket yet? Initial thoughts?

Happy with mine. Very warm. Seems on par with northface. Still waiting on the badge so I haven’t worn it to work yet.

I think it looks stupid but somehow better than the trench coat or the leather jacket. The sleeves are too long. I’m between a L and XL according to their size chart. I got the L and I’m going to wear it but I probably should have ordered the XL. I’ve heard people say it runs big. I’d say it runs true to size other than the way too long sleeves. The inner puffy liner thing is not exactly what I expected but it’ll serve it’s purpose. I expected it to be a little puffier than it is. It’s completely flat, no puff. I guess that’s probably a good thing though for layering. I also don’t think the inner jacket is necessary at all. The outer one seems like it will be more than warm enough on its own.
