Hiring Again?!

New email from our president states we are going to start hiring pilots again! No time table but sounded like immediately.

RabidW0mbat 03-12-2021 10:01 AM

I mean I want to believe it, but I’ve been hurt before...😝

I agree with nearly everything RB said in that email. There will be a summer rush as states begin to reopen. Mostly leisure travelers at first, but hopefully businesses realize that flying is going to become safer with the vaccines starting to kill infection counts, and they will eventually come back.

Now is the right time to start training. If they have a class in April, the new pilots will be getting on IOE around June. I'd suspect that they will start scheduling the first class no later than mid-April to take full advantage of this opportunity.

I would not be surprised if there was another realignment with lots of upgrades soon to be able to utilize all those new FOs.

Best news I've heard in a while. Wonder if it's coincidental that we get this news just after the 700/900 rates? Union and company clearly stated that nothing was lined up so I expect so, but great news either way!

More likely related to PSP3 passage.

moonraker9 03-12-2021 11:43 AM

That's great news for you folks, so are all pilots being put on active flying status vs sitting at home and being paid through PSP?

Have all furloughed pilots been brought back in house?

flypilot 03-13-2021 04:41 PM

Anyone know if they're bringing back people that were offered CJO's or had started training? I would think they'd start there first (or I hope, I fall into that bucket).

I know multiple people who had CJO’s and haven’t been contacted yet

Well, I'm thinking this email just came out on Friday afternoon, and my understanding is that most (really everyone I know) in their HR/recruiting department were let go last year, so we have to give them at least a little bit to get ramped up and start reaching out to people.

Yea I agree. They also did have a job posting for a recruiter several months ago. I wonder if EG and TG will come back? They’re great

moonraker9 03-14-2021 01:40 PM

So there are still pilots that are inactive but paid through PSP and previous CJO holders weren't called yet? Kind of fishy, sounds like best case they are interviewing into a "pool" only.

Anyone on furlough that wants to be back is in the queue for training, as far as I understand. They may not have been given a date yet, but there is a finite amount of sim time and getting 100 people back on the line after almost all of them have gone past their recurrent takes time. Opening up applications, interviewing candidates, background checks, etc. all take time. I would guess it would take at least until mid may before someone who applies today would realistically be in the sim. Plenty of time for the backlog to take care of itself.

What is most critical here is that someone gets the importance of Cherie Berry in your lives.

If you've ever been in a hotel elevator in North Carolina you should know.

3rdtimesacharm 03-14-2021 08:16 PM

They might think about making sure their furloughed pilots are paid what they are owed, and called back to training before they open a pie in the sky hiring window...

They'll get the backpay once Treasury gives them the money to do it.

I think she has had that job since elevators were invented.

edit: meant to quote the first post

Elevator Inspector sounds like a good job, but it has it’s ups and downs. It’s a job you can start out on the ground floor and move up to the top. It’s really an uplifting experience. As they say in the business, when one door closes, another one closes.

You’ve been a great audience, tip your servers!

I honestly thought you were referencing something else. My first thought “there’s another one???”

thanks for the laugh.

But you will have a new face soon as she did not run again!

Loved the elevator humor. It was uplifting.

Class Info

Just created an account today so lets see if I can do this right.

Had an April 2020 class date and received an email today saying the first few classes will be for those who already have ATP/CTP completed or an ATP. I cant imagine many guys coming into those class dates with either of those already completed. Hopefully only a class or two and then they will be back to offering the atp/ctp course!

prt135 03-15-2021 12:06 PM

ZW is requiring ATP-CTP and written completed from previous CJOs in order to get a new class date

When I was a kid, I really wanted to be a garbage man. I knew the work was really picking up. Then garbage disposers came along, and the job market went down the drain.

But EDV, PSA and Commutair are all paying for ATP-CTP

It's an easy way to say they want TSA, Compass, and XJT folks. They were already on that path back in the first days of the virus. And look how many Commair alums are at AWAC for a historical basis.

Good luck luring in the compass, TSA, XJT guys with that first year pay rate. Especially with places like endeavor hiring...
They'll eventually have to accept guys without the ATP written completed.

I think it shows we're really not looking to hire very many people. Need to "contain costs"

Compass, TSA, and XJT combined put thousands of highly experienced pilots on the street, and Endeavor, Atlas, etc can only hire so many. There will be plenty of high time pilots to weed through before having to go after low time pilots. I’d suspect that those people aren’t as concerned about the first year pay as they are setting themselves up for a repeat of their first shutdown. In a world where scope is maxed out, going to a company that only flies aging 145’s or 200’s is a gamble. Of course, turning down a job in this market is too.

Backearly 03-15-2021 11:47 PM

Good to see the options are continuing to expand, though. There are still a lot of Compass, TSH, and XJT peeps that are running out of unemployment. Even though Air Wisconsin might not be there new home, it should spark others to restart hiring or risk losing out on theses experienced crews that will be Captain eligible before long.

These are businesses where the goal is to make money. No one is going to "restart hiring" earlier than necessary if there isn't a need for it. The fact that you think if AW starts hiring/training is going to force others to fire up their training departments is laughable.

If anything it could seem like ZW is the one to restart hiring because others are. Commutair, PSA and Endeavor among others already started before them. Oh yea and as mentioned earlier they’re paying for ATP-CTP unlike ZW

Contain costs =
Latin for screw the employees out of every dollar you can , in every way possible.
