Relief bidding
Guys, can we please get this right? It’s not that difficult. Here’s the first post of a 12 page thread on the air willy forum that spanned I think 10 months back in like 2015. It’s 2021 and people still haven’t figured out the right way to bid relief.
“Why is it so difficult to put REL lines in order on your bid sheet when you are bidding?
Going out of order/putting random lines in/etc just screws with the QOL of people below you.
I find myself amazed at how selfish and careless pilots are when it comes to adding REL lines to their bid sheets. Seriously, how hard is it to put them in order. 1-2-3.
Scenario: my bid sheet was set up this month so that IF I could not hold the top 7 REL lines, I got line 146. Line 146 had me done for the month on the 17th. Instead I got REL 211 (#7) but come Friday I will be bidding number 12. My vacation is essentially f*^#?d because people can't put the damn lines in order. Brian Carson, I expect this type of thing from you because you probably think you're screwing the company. And you're not. You're screwing your coworkers. JUST PUT THE DAMN LINES IN ORDER.
<name removed by admin> .... CMon man. REL 221 was your first choice. You're the #4 bidder. You should be REL 208.
It happens every month. I don't usually bid REL, but I notice it every month.
REL lines went from REL205 to REL 221. So there were 17 lines. My bid sheet was set up so that if I couldn't hold top seven, or REL 211 then I would have been awarded line 146 and made out like a bandit. Instead now I am gonna have to rely on a damn prayer to pull this off because people can't put REL205-06-07-08 in chronological order on their bid sheet.
IF YOU PUT REL ON YOUR BID SHEET, PUT THE LINES IN ORDER. It is common courtesy to those below you. Goes for all bases. Both seats.
Do any of you phone/email bids in? <names removed by admin> If they're screwing this up on their end then that is another issue.”

You can’t see what they bid but it’s real easy to tell that they didn’t bid for relief in order. The union even put a freaking tutorial in a PDH years ago and it fixed nothing. Almost every month of every year that I’ve worked here people screw it up. It’s a very simple concept that very simple minds obviously have a very hard time comprehending.

Because some people don’t care. if I put lines 15 lines that I want, then any rel then any line I’m sorry I ticked you off by not listing every single relief line in order. I don’t care if I’m bidding 1 or 12 in the relief stack. Or maybe people forget to bid and all that’s left is relief lines.

I'm slow, so I had to read this three times before I figured it out. Maybe someone else is with me. If you bid relief out of order, then you'll screw someone over who's trying to plan their vacation. And you gain nothing. So be polite and let's bid relief in order. We'll all benefit from improved morale as a result of QOL.
