Lurking in the forums and making career transition to regionals. Looking for mentor/reference/referral. Don’t expect anyone to do it cold; a bit about myself;

R-ATP Eligible
U.S. Army UH-60A/L/M Pilot in Command
Air Mission Commander / Final Mission Approval Authority (extra responsibility)
950 Total Time (830 Helicopter / 120 SEL) 270 PIC
Commercial Pilot ASEL / Rotorcraft Helicopter
Instrument Airplane / Helicopter

Completing AMEL and R-ATP minimums either self-funded, GI Bill, and/or RTP; anticipating prerequisites complete this summer and available for FAR 121 ATP-CTP and ‘ground school’ this September.

Looking to start a mutually beneficial network with all willing and equally contribute.

I can’t begin to express how beneficial and informative this forum has been; thanks for all the regular ‘posters’ and I hope to share the best practices as I make the jump!

Army to 121,

Sounds like you have had some great training in the Army.
Check out some of the regionals that help Army Pilots transition.
I don't know much about them, other than the ads.

Also, network at your nearby airport. You will definitely meet some great pilots,
possibly some airlines pilots there as well, or pilots that will introduce you to their airline pilot friends.

For those much smarter than I am... thoughts?

https://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/united-very-seriously-looking-at-cseries-and-e2-446510/

The airline will fuel its growth this year with the addition of 40 Bombardier CRJ200s but executives call the fleet additions "temporary" with the hope that they can win some form of scope relief from pilots to replace them with larger 76-seat regional jets.

"We can wind up turning 50 seaters into larger regional jets, but we make some kind of commitment to [pilots], whether it's a growth commitment or jobs," said Scott Kirby, president of United, in January.

Definitely maybe.

IF we were to be handed bigger airplanes to fly, we wouldn’t do it unless the owners make a sizable profit with low risk. If they aren’t making money off something bigger, they are making money flying -200’s and they are happy with that. Money is money to them, they don’t care how big the airplanes we fly are.

If your only hope for larger airplanes is scope relief from the United pilots and flight attendants, then you probably are not getting larger airplanes.

At least, as a regional pilot, you should hope that you are not getting larger airplanes through scope relief.

Personally I'd like to see all regionals flying Saabs and Dashs. Everything else with a jet engine should be flown by mainline.

I’ll be more interested to see if they can agree with the flight attendants to remove the clause in their contract which states only mainline flight attendants are approved to operate an aircraft for a company which is wholly-owned by United.

I think this is the only provision stopping them from having their own set of wholly-owned regionals (I believe they already own 40% of C5). I have no evidence to suggest so but my gut says they brought in Kirby to help them acquire their own regional brand the same way he did for American with EN, OH and MQ under the ‘Eagle’ brand.

Rumor has it that Parker approached AWA to set aside 5-10 aircraft on the American side to help with lift after the announcement of a United deal. If anyone’s been back to PHLs F terminal it’s a ghost town compared to what it used to be. AWA must have been offered a decent amount to help out, but ultimately United countered with something better, otherwise we would be operating for both AA and UA.

I’m not suggesting the owners are going to sell the company to United anytime in the near future but ZW and C5 are exclusively United operators and would be the prime candidates to be part of a wholly-owned brand.

I’m not trying to start rumors I’m just saying what makes sense to me. All of this would likely happen long after the current pilot group has moved on.

That's the only way they're going to be able to staff; united buying the company and setting up a flow program.

Having the monetary backing as a wholly owned would also allow AWA to get a new pilot contract to compete with Endeavor.

They could afford to pay Endeavor rates now if they wanted to. Most of the rest of the contract is already better.

Keep the bonuses, match endeavor, and offer soft landings and I'd say they have a shot at keeping it staffed, especially as expressjet winds down. Right now everyone is really scraping the bottom of the applicant pool, they need to make it an attractive lateral move.
