Default Air Wisconsin Interview Gouge

Never thought I'll be back at a regional but, personal life sometimes takes a turn in the opposite direction from the original plan

It took a week from when I updated my app through their website to get the interview invitation. Afterwards, I confirmed I was interested in learning more about the company. It took a day for a confirmed interview session. I had a few days to prepare. I called the number provided for a hotel with an Air Wisconsin rate right away. I reserved it at least two days in advance. Some applicants had to pay normal rate due to the availability.

You will be dropped off by the hotel shuttle at the "Airport Business Center". This building houses many other airport offices and amongst them is Air Wisconsin's. Go to the second floor and go around the corner from the elevators and you will see a double door with the Air Wisconsin name on it. Just walk through and the break room will be to your right. There are many cubicles there, don't be nervous to walk right through and ask if you are the first one there.

There were many distinguished applicants there: Air Force, National Guard, Navy, and others. Mr. Johnathan will come in and introduce himself and hand out some finger printing documents to fill out. He will ask you to also take out the documents that you were asked to fill out prior and put them in a folder. (Bring a few copies of your resume)

After all is collected, he will ask you to fallow him to the classroom where him and other captains/HR personnel will talk about the history of the company and future goals. Right away it was said that "any one of you who are here because of the Delta flying should know that is was rejected". There were some questions about that and they addressed them by saying that Delta came to Air Wisconsin, not the other way around. Air Wisconsin is a company that promotes long term stability and felt that this contract with Delta was not par with Air Wisconsin's values. They did mentioned that their planes are being re-painted with new American Livery and seats re-furbished courtesy of American. The 2015 contract was extended and foresee more options in the future. Once all the questions were answered, we were asked to take a 50 question test. I did not study for this test and I still got hired. I have prior 121 experience and did not study for excess of arrogance, but only because I had a day or two to get all my documentations and suit together. (no time to study) The test in my opinion was easy and nothing anybody hasn't heard of before so, be confident and don't stress about it.

After the test was completed we were asked to head back to the break room and that they would call each one of us individually based on the time we had to make our flights. They want us to succeed and understand that non rev travel could be a night mare.

During my face to face, there was a captain and an HR (also a captain). The Line Captain/ check airman was reviewing my logbook while the HR captain fired away from a list of predetermined questions. Why Air Wisconsin? What values of Air Wisconsin do you feel is closer to yours and why? If you were the one doing the hiring, would you hire a pilot or an employee? If the plane is loaded and you are ready to go but captain isn't there, suddenly you see him/her walking down the bridge and notice he/she smells of alcohol; what would you do? (I feel there is no right or wrong answer here as long as you can justify your actions within reason) Have you ever been counseled before? Give me an example of a mentor in your career? etc...

After the HR captain was satisfied, the Line Captain/check started with technical questions. First we covered low enroutes. ( just three questions asked) Then we covered airport signs. Then we covered Jepp approaches. Nothing tricky at all so don't panic. Read a taf, metar, and pirep. I missed a few questions and when I wasn't sure I said I didn't know and that I would guess but I would have to double check. They know you are nervous and will brain fart so, they will help you when you seemed like you are stuck. After it was over they told me I would hear back within one to three business days. I was asked to return back to the break room but not to leave yet until I spoke with Johnathan. I returned back and I honestly thought I didn't get the job since they told us at the company history meeting that each one of us will know on the spot if we got the job or not. After five minutes or so Johnathan came in and asked me to fallow him. I grabbed all my things thinking I was heading home and once I entered the classroom he extended his hand and as I was shaking it, he offered me the position. Soon after a few more fallowed. I can't recall how many of us there were but it felt only 50 percent were hired.

After you get the good news, you will get to eat and fill out an online security background history of your previous employers in the past five years and all the addresses you have lived in for the past 10 years. If you have "Airline Apps" thats great!! I opened a separate window and went down my info and filled in all the required fields. I was prior Navy so I lived in many different states (like 15 different addresses LOL) so I was definitely glad I had Airline Apps.

Once that is finished, you will take your digital and hard copy finger prints along with a Urinalysis test. Once all that is done, you will meet with Jonathan again and he will email you the training documents so that you may study ahead of time if need be. After that you are free to go! Be very careful with the hotel shuttle!! They take for ever to come get you and you may miss an early flight out! It might actually be faster to call a cab. Yes, when flying non-rev you may get on an earlier flight. Just walk up to the gate agent and he/she will set you up.

Good luck to everyone!!! The job is truly yours to lose and I feel there is great potential here. I have studied business and I started my own as well. I really think this is a hidden gem regardless what some may think. You will get your money's worth here very soon specially with the way the market is right now and how it is forecast-ed to be. Be friendly, humble, and courageous. Stand up for what you believe in and nobody will ever question your motives.

Follow, not fallow. Sorry, it's like fingernails on a chalkboard, especially if it's repeated throughout. Glad you got the job it's a good company I spent the better part of a decade there.

Looks like the interview hasn't changed since I went through the process early in 2012.

We just want motivated, competent people; we will teach you the rest. In return you will be treated well, enjoy a top employment contract but of course like most regional flying there will be the crappy days but still better than most other regional's crappy days.

Hard to not hit this point again and again about the Delta flying. AWAC only seeks flying that will not endanger the company so in the end while it would have been nice to do some midwest flying again, I am willing to trust that this was the better move.

Default Interview Updates?

Any updates to the outstanding interview gouge provided by Einstein 12/2014? I've been out of flying for 6+ years (all mil, no 121 experience) and am trying to be prepared as I can be. I've done Sheppard ATP and Interview prep and applied through Airline Apps.

Based on the gouge, in addition to Sheppard, I plan to review METAR/TAF PIREP codes, enroute charts, Jepps, and airport symbology. I can pull some TMAAT and situational questions from 11 years in naval aviation. PMs or public consumption posts welcome and appreciated.

Well in today's environment just show up with no felons, an ATP and a first class medical and you'll be a wanted man/gal.

Yes Air Wisconsin is still hiring...the class dates will stay strong through November and may or may not have one in Dec just due to holiday scheduling. Otherwise we will continue to run classes each month often two times a month.
