I was keeping it positive. Didn't last long (way to drag it down). But yes, relative to other carriers, it's nice.

Just curious, because the one's I've rode on didn't have any seatback entertainment.

How are the Alaska 737's "nicer" than the other carriers? Are you talking about a cockpit perspective?

Yep. But I'll leave it alone. Experience outside of AS gives some perspective.

Doesn't make management any better... but at least the jets were nice to fly.

Back to the gripes.

I don't know if it's changed, but I think AS at least used to have a higher seat pitch than most anyone else as well.

I’ve been wanting to post this for a while but just haven’t gotten around to it. Recently being acquired by Alaska has made me really start some serious soul searching. This question up in another post and I though it was good for us to elaborate on, possibly for people looking to come work here or people who are on the fence who are currently here.

I never had to / never wanted to ask the , “Why Alaska?” question until now, and honestly I’m having a problem answering this in a positive way. I’d like to start a discussion with the pilots who work at mainline Alaska now regarding why they chose Alaska and what the like about it. Before you flame me for not having enough posts you can see I’ve been on this board for about 10 years and yes I am a pilot here, I’m not a troll. This is just something that is serious enough to me to finally post on this forum.

Some of the things I was wondering are:

What made you want to work there before you got hired?
What makes you stay?
What does Alaska have that other bigger/better airlines don’t?
Can you talk about anything positive?

I’m not really looking for this to devolve into a *****ing fest and trust me I can name 100s reasons why this place looks bad to me. I’m looking for some positive and possibly unknown reason why you chose/like/stay at Alaska. Again please only positive things, I can read all the negative in other posts and we can start another thread about why we hate this place if you want to be negative.

Thanks,
Fellow(on the fence)AAG pilot

Just use Alaska as a stepping-stone to go where you really want! AK management has created this culture from their decision to push our JCBA Negotiations into arbitration.

Why Alaska? Well, does it advance your career? Then That’s why. Who Cares? Get some good training, do some cool flying and when a better deal comes along, bail.

Agree EskimoJoe. Its just sad to see Alaska fall so far behind and become a stepping stone job.

Why Alaska?

Spirit and frontier with soon be more desirable than us once their contracts are settled. Then we will really be in last place. One dysfunctional stagnant airline

Lots of posts about this being a stepping stone and leave for somewhere better. Words are nice, but actions speak louder and the reality is we do not have an attrition problem. In the hearing transcripts put out, they admit they lost about 20 AS guys and 5 VX guys since the merger and that the attrition was well within historical norms, if not even less. It's a seniority and longevity driven industry. The longer you're in the harder it gets to leave. Management knows this all too well.
