KCM in Anchorage?
 

I asked a TSA agent last month about KCM in Anchorage and she said they are supposed to be getting it this month. I haven't been through ANC lately, can anyone confirm if this has happened?

I haven't been up there, but this was in the latest CP newsletter:

"ANC Known Crew Member access is scheduled to go live on May 21.

The access point will be located at the main terminal screening checkpoint.

This info will be reflected on the KCM website."

I checked the KCM website and, yes, ANC is listed under the active airports.

That's good news. The word I had through acquaintances in the AIA administration was that the local TSA head was violently opposed to KCM and would resist it to the end. I wonder if he was replaced, overruled, or just had an epiphany.

KCM reduces screener manpower requirements at airports with numerous crew coming and going.


Initially TSA was opposed because they wanted to build their empire. Any civil service manager knows the fastest way to advancement is government growth.


TSA leadership got onboard once they realized congress was going to cap their funding, but they would still be held politically accountable for long TSA lines and pizzed off voters.


No local TSA outfit could justify not having TSA if their lines were backed up with crew waiting to be screened.

TSA put in KCM at EUG (probably like 3 crews max a day go through there) and went from the most commuter unfriendly airport (required a pass to go through security to JS when not in uniform) to probably the easiest commuting airport on the west coast. (in terms of passing security and getting to your gate in 2 min).

Opened on 21 May and used it on 25 May.

Lots of commuters out of there, they also help reduce TSA workload with KCM. Or maybe the local manager just decided to be nice, they're not all bad.

Yep, used the ANC KCM portal yesterday, it's not just an internet rumor anymore. ;)
