What make SWA successful in the states doesn't really work in the islands. Since you can only use your ETOPS crews and planes you can't bring the entire weight of the system into the market.

Also, with the lack of red-eyes, anyone east of the rockies is spending an extra night somewhere along the way.
Hmmm, I bet you're right. Surely SWA mgt never thought of all that before wasting all that money on this venture.

I didn't say they didn't think of it. Just stating facts. They do not have a pilot/airplane base in HI, they do not have red eyes, and they can't use non-ETOPS aircraft or crews carrying passengers to Hawaii.

Where was I wrong?

Also funny how people say our management screws up all the time and are a bunch of morons, but every other airlines management is super smart and perfect.

Well obviously SWA management has considered these issues (and many more) and have decided they can make it work.

I don't know all the details of how management plans to make Hawaii successful (well above my pay grade), but I would be surprised if they went through all this only to have it fail.

Just my $.02

You guys this really is not a big deal. SWA will fly mainly SWA mileage plan members to the islands. They do what they do very well. Honestly, give our guys some credit. Our future is bright and our company is unbelievably strong. We will be fine, we are not going anywhere.

I hope you know more about flying a jet than you do about SWA's plan for Hawaii and how they will serve the inter-island markets. With 750 airpanes and 10,000 pilots I don't think aircraft and crewing logistics is something that will be an afterthought for them. I'm guessing you think they just spent all this time and money on ETOPS and didn't put any thought and planning into the logistics. Last I heard was they are committing 30 aircraft for the Hawaii market. Hawaiian has what, 20 something 717s. We'll see.

Hopefully you're better suited to jerking the gear on the 737 than you are with aircraft and staffing analysis or is it that you still have kool-aid leftover from new hire class. It's OK, we all go though that process of over consumption.

Well, the first time they bought ETOPS 737s to go to Hawaii they didn't put any thought or planning into it. What makes you think they did this time? Just because they finally got the cert?

How many of those 10,000 pilots will be based in Hawaii? Planes?

The first time SWA bought ETOPS airplanes was when the -700 was introduced in the 90's. Aloha used them for ETOPS proving runs if I'm not mistaken.

Is that what you're referring to? Or are you saying that SWA has sought ETOPS approval in the past and been turned down?

And finally, I guess those pesky Wall Street types who have slammed ALK and HA stock this week are stupid too.

A5 is a whinny uneducated pilot. He spews angry mantra because he is mad. I bet he actually thinks his depressed delusional views alone, just might force a merger with one of the big 3. Dude grow up, you don’t know what you are talking about. ALK is expected to make around $750,000,000 💵 in 2019 and $900,000,000 💵 in 2020. Those are not the numbers of a company on the ropes. I guess we are just all lucky you and a few of the idiots you fly with “saw it all coming”.

ALK stock pullback is related to Q1 revenue guidance not LUV. The change in revenue guidance had everything to do with the February weather and nothing to do with LUV. The market tends to over correct in the airline sector. All the underlying fundamentals at ALK are strong.
