Default Sept 30

If we get the fed $$$ with the strings attached....and Alaska still needs furloughs....does it mean you are laid off and Sec 23 applies on Sept 30th (aka paid 3 months....oct , nov, Dec) or are you going to get notice in June....for a furlough starting in July with pay through Sept 30th? Kind of a big distinction. Trying to plan worst case....this is info everyone needs.

Alaska management’s understanding of section 23 is, “this is an act of God so they will not be paying any furlough pay.”

Sounds like Alaska will send furlough notices late July to comply with federal law. I keep hearing 600-800 notifications. Then in September depending on demand they can cancel or lower the actual number that end up being furloughed.

I know it’s all scary, no one knows how this will all end up. I heard the economists we payed to run models saw the big 3 furloughing around 3000-6000 each, with SWA furloughing around 1,500. These are truly unparalleled times, I hope the go away as fast as they arrived!

where did you hear 600-800? That covers about 25% of the pilot group. Does that include early retirements and extended LOAs?

ive heard around 400 total... for what those rumors are worth.

”lies, damn lies, and airline rumors!” 😂

So Alaska grows at a slower pace than their counterparts, has a better balance sheet than their counterparts, is in a better position to survive/grow on the backside of this than their counterparts, and was getting hammered in this home territory precisely because of their smaller size, and their answer is to furlough at an exponentially higher percentage rate to their counterparts..... sounds about right.

They are all lies and speculation at this point. No one knows how this is going to shake out. It would not surprise me at all to see 1,200 notifications in July. It does two things, it gives the company flexibility with the numbers as they will have complied with federal law for their worst case and it puts the fear of god in the union to try and force pay concessions.

I think 300-450 actually furloughs are probably likely. Very few retirements and LOA’s will happen, I would say less then 100 total.

It’s a very conservative company. The big three will furlough a significant larger number and percentage then Alaska, I assure you of this. Management feels going single fleet will expedite their ability to grow rapidly and capture all low lying fruit on the back side of this one.

180 airplanes indefinitely and the desire to remain a smaller airline than we currently are is pretty much diametrically opposed to “growing rapidly on the back side” That being said there has been nothing but inconsistency (growth at 7... then 4... then 2. Fleet plan constantly being pushed out another 6 mos. Most West Coast.... oh wait... protect SEA!) the entire time I’ve been here, so I’m just chalking this up to the negative version of that.
