COVID travel question
 

My family is looking to travel on Alaska. On an 737-900, is it correct to say there's really only 8 first class seats and 108 available and the rest are blocked due to the COVID restrictions. If I buy 5 tickets for my family and I list for the jumpseat, and there are only blocked seats left, they're unoccupiable. Is the jumpseat even available at that point?

If people are traveling together, then they can occupy seats next to each other. If you bought 5 seats, that should leave one open for you in two rows. Your family would have to make it known to the gate agent.

Alaska is a joke.
Gate announcement about customer safety and different boarding procedures, back to front.
Then who do they call first? Yep their rewards members and business class.
Then it’s non stop PA’s about social distancing but when the door closes you can’t change seats to an empty row.
They also don’t enforce pax wearing masks.
Apparently a soda can is deathly dangerous but a bottle of water is not.
Its a clown show out there.

So I guess following up, some other airlines has an 85% capacity limit, so an 160 seater will take 136 passengers...etc.

The way Alaska does it is half the first class and empty middle seat, so on an 900, is there an actual hard limit for the amount of passengers you will take? 8+108=116? Like you said, if an family is sitting together, regardless of middle seats, does it allow the plane to be booked higher than 116?

Know what I'm saying? If all the revenue passengers and higher priority non revs gets to the 116 "limit", can I exceed that limit if they manually override it to let me sit in a middle seat with my family? Or will the system lock it out at 116 passengers as a defacto limit because of the requirement for middle seat ro be empty?

I can't say for absolutely sure. But Alaska's registered commuters have to get on and they're allowed in the middle seat. So there is probably a way for the computer to do it. I'd hope the gate agents use common sense for this.

Probably not....The process is nothing but social media whitewash....Leadership has as much as said so. So the indignant Seattlite posting the pictures of you and your family all sitting in a row with no empty middle seats is calling the shots....The marketing angle is this: Big Jay Z wants everyone to put on face-saving face masks in Washington so that makes it pure social media science so Alaska bows down to it: then the paranoid posters of the social-media super hiway propped up by various loud-mouth politicos demand middle seats be left empty so again social-media science rules the day and we adopt that policy too......The end, you aint goin
