I called in sick and then got two calls and voicemails from the CP to see if I needed any assistance and to make sure I was okay. Does your company care as much about you as Alaska does?

I'd be curious to see the effect of their veiled threats to have the BCPs take a more active role. I'm sure it will decrease the number of sick calls by a few percentage points.

I've banged in sick on holidays, right before vacation, and even my first trip back after a three month paid leave during covid. Not a single person called to see if I was okay.

They make it impossible to trade or drop trips, they refuse to staff the airline properly by calling people back from leave and by hiring proactively, then they purge the vacation open time, and now they're upset that they aren't staffed properly and blame the pilots! They also have the nerve to try to guilt the pilot group into accepting blame for the terrible QOL that reserves here have to endure, when of course that's because this company models its staffing needs on reserves constantly working, instead of as backups. So there isn't ever a backup plan for unfit for duty calls, because the reserves, who should be that plan, are always already working. And that's our fault too now?

You realize we are in section 6 negotiations right?
This is how the game is played.
Just like chess the company makes it's move, then we hopefully make an equally as douchey move to counter, e.g. company purges vacation open time, pilots sick out. Reserves get beat up countered by reserves calling fatigued. Dig in, this is how it's always gone, expect it to get worse than this over the next 5 years.
Do your part, know your contract and fly your contract, nothing more and this game will end sooner rather than later, maybe only 3 more years.
Don't take it so personal, it's just a game to them and you're just a pawn.

This is all the result of the recently announced policy that Horizon Pathways applicants cannot have anymore than 5 sick calls in the preceding 12 months. This is how it was announced over a Horizon pilot chat several days ago. More than 5 sick calls and you are not eligible to “flow” via the pathways program to Alaska. This is after telling pilots that we must call in sick if we experienced so much as a headache or runny nose in the day leading up to the start of a trip. Keep in mind, pilots in this program have already met internal requirements to go to AS such as a formal interview and minimum hours spent as PIC at QX.
