What would you do?
 

I live in the PNW. Currently at about 2100 total, two type ratings, 1500 jet, 700 TPIC, 500 single pilot jet. I’ve got about 100 hours 135 from years ago, but other than that, mostly part 91 corporate. CFI, but no ATP or ATP written.

I had an ATP CTP and class date at SkyWest early Feb, but they recently pushed that back indefinitely. That could be as late as this summer or fall, from what I hear. Of course, this news came *after* leaving my job in preparation for SkyWest. Luckily I could probably pick up contract work for awhile to pay the bills.

My question: with my current experience and Alaska’s hiring needs, do you feel it’s worth paying for my own ATP CTP course + written just so I can apply to Alaska within the next couple weeks? The hiring landscape changes so rapidly, and with seniority being so important, I'm feeling pressured to hurry this along. I have the means to pay for the CTP now without worry, but if my current experience isn’t likely to warrant a call from Alaska to interview, I'm not sure if it makes sense. It’s just the written, after all.

I say go for it! You meet all the mins otherwise, so you shouldn’t have a problem getting an interview.

I was l almost purely part 91 corporate as well, and they didn’t treat or look at me any different than the 135 or 121 regional peeps.

I don't know that they will bring you down to interview without your written ATP (I can't speak to the hours they're looking for you to have). During my phone screen I was specifically asked to confirm ATP CTP and completion of written ATP. I was asked to bring my print outs to the Seattle interview and then my completion of both was confirmed again during the individual interview.

For context almost all of my flight time is military.

Yep, I would get it on my own. If AS doesn't come calling immediately then Frontier and Spirit will. Then get the type and throw apps out to everyone.

Go get the ATP/CTP and apply to alaska. Like the others said, if you don’t get hired here right away, another major lcc will hire you.

UPDATE: Attended a Meet the Chiefs event. They recommended me for the interview, and they encouraged me to go knock out the CTP, submit a formal pilot application, and then shoot them an email and they'd take care of the rest.

When you say recommended for an interview, what do you mean? Did they schedule one already or?

Those are the words used by the base chief with whom I had my 5 minute Chief event interview. They didn't schedule me on the spot - but I also have my own situation going on, so they wouldn't have.
There was another guy who was "turned down" after his discussion, so I assume the recommendation verbiage was the green light, and those people will receive their interview calls/emails sometime soon.
