Do a search here, somewhere around Nov/Dec there was a breakdown of one of the classes. Civi guys had 5000-8000 hours and the mil guys around 2000-2500 hours. Just about EVERY resume is walked in either to Seattle or to a WIA/OBAP job fair.

At least you don't need a space shuttle type! ;) Congrats to those who get hired!

Gee, I don't qualify to interview at Alaska, since I don't have a college degree. I'm bummed that they wouldn't even want to talk to me. Like I'd leave my crappy job at the most profitable transportation integrator for a job at a soon to be bankrupt niche airline....NOT!

I have to agree with Mike. After 9/11 Alaska and its air group was one of the few airlines to buy new aircraft and add flights and cities. So, I don't think they're going anywhere close to bankruptcy any time soon.
Hey Mike, any sign of them finally working out that whole ramp situation in SEA? |
I live in Seattle and so that would make Alaska my "Home Team." I also own stock in the airline and I know an MD-80 captain very well. If Alaska is headed towards bankruptcy, then every airline ought to be emulating it! A bankrupt airline does not buy new planes, new simulators, hire like crazy, or show a profit.

Alaska is definately NOT a candidate for bankruptcy. A very GOOD 'niche', if you want to call it that.

Interesting article.....
I am not a "major" guy, just wondered if anyone else found it odd/disturbing that the article repeatedly mentions seeking and interviewing only those with the best qualifications, ("Only those with the highest qualification are being asked to participate in the process") yet then clearly states we are attempting to recruit people of a certain gender or ethnic group? If the airline (any airline) clearly says we want only best and brightest because we can afford to do that, great. Why is it then followed up with naming certain groups they are specifically looking for? I would assume if you are part of the first group, it should not matter what the second group you belong to is. (Gender/Race) Not trying to pick a fight, and will probably get shot for it, but I certainly take issue to the implication of the letter. If the letter stated we have an eye on "White males of Anglo-Saxon descent" it would not go over well. If you are the "best of the best' so be it, no matter your race and gender. If not, there are other jobs out there. |
