What, were mechanics expecting to get a major airline job with 1500 piston GA hours and a degree?

The bitter and angry one I encountered did but he gave up as he did not have a degree. He later heard that possibly some Virgin pilots didn't have degrees and now feels cheated. I made him feel better though by telling him I thought AS had a chief pilot that got hired without a degree.
Next time I see him I'll tell him to try applying now as I don't think they'll even worry about 1500 hours with all the pilot staffing cancelations.

Alaska will fill classes just fine, just like always.

Quoted for truth.

I’d look at the posts here saying no one is going to work here not as reality but someone very upset about how they are being treated professionally.

Would someone be kind enough to say how long it is taking to hold PDX as a new hire? Thanks.

If you read the tread I posted hire dates from PDX. Time to hold will be based on hiring. So a timeline is unknown.

Personally I wouldn’t want to be based at PDX since it would take an extremely long time to upgrade or you’d be on commuter reserve as captain for years.

During 2018 when I was hired the top 1/2 of the class got SEA. The bottom LAX. It took about 6 months for the LA crowd to make it back to SEA. Some opted for PDX which took about 18 months or so.

Granted that was when we hired 450 pilots. This round is for 300. However management is making noise that we will hire at an unprecedented level for the foreseeable future.

Personally I do not believe anything management says and try to just enjoy my time away from work. To each their own. I have no idea what the future will bring.

I’d be extremely skeptical of their hiring numbers given the current covid trajectory. Even in good times you can usually take half of their hiring projection and that will be closer to reality.

I second this. For my hiring cycle there were a little over 1/2 of the pilots hired that was mentioned by management.
