My recommendation to potential new hires is to not listen to the frequenters of this forum. When I read their posts it’s often embellished and false. I’ve been junior and on reserve my entire career here, and it’s not the doom and gloom you read about here.
try to find someone on property who is willing to chat and answer your questions. Pm me if you like.

Most often they open in early spring or late fall with the announcement happening 5-6 months in advance. However, company did say a while back to expect an announcement of 1 new base in Jan for a summer opening. 2-3 new bases next year is planned.

Spoken like someone who's never spent a day on reserve in SFB. I can assure you it's as bad as some say.

and even if they aren’t in Florida, the number of grievances and even instances of company not paying out or following arbitration losses (must work day/instructor travel pay) is staggering. How can one say everything is peachy when the company doesn’t just not follow the contract but completely walks all over it?

let us remind people: this is the only ULCC/ LCC and one of only 3 major airlines that furloughed, and then later bragged on the investor call they were able to bend the cares act rules to find creative ways to pay their executives when bonuses were prohibited.

yes the crews are great, yes behind home every day is great, but there is more to a workplace than just that.

Either like he said this guy is brand new and has no clue or this is management posing as a pilot. So if you DM him for the "real" information (propaganda) keep that in mind.

The VP of flight ops just put out her 2nd of 5 videos meant to stop attrition in which she outright lied, contradicted herself, and even put up graphics with different numbers than previous ones. All it did is show how they don't have their act together and will say anything at this point. Almost every FO I fly with has updated their apps recently, at least half have interviews scheduled at legacy pax or freight airlines. Some have already been hired and are awaiting class dates even senior ones. They all say the same thing. They don't want to move up north to upgrade with no chance of getting back to FL and they don't trust management to keep this place going long term. They are stagnant where they are. The Mexico thing really opened a lot of eyes. We were supposed to be doing that flying and now its farmed out to cheaper pilots. They show a daily lack of respect in contract compliance and abuse. That has no signs of changing. The main attraction here is to be home every night and if you can't then there's no point working here and accepting the lowest airbus pay in the nation and our sub regional airline work rules which they still ignore.

The “it’s not that bad” people on here are doing prospective applicants a disservice, to put it politely. There’s a tiny minority for whom this is a good fit. The rest of you asking about commuting & such - just move on. Believe what you read.

Prospective applicants, please read this and take this advice to heart. Maybe the guy who said it’s all great is in a small base where reserve abuse isn’t as bad as the larger ones, and also has no interest in ever upgrading. That’s the only reasonable explanation. Otherwise you’re kidding yourself to think you’re going to come here and ever upgrade in a desirable base.

You’re all wrong, I’m a captain in Florida. My advice still stands, reach out to someone outside of this forum. You’re doing a disservice to yourself if you listen to it.

You cannot deny the airline's business model and future growth plans. Facts are facts. The most junior CA award in Florida (VPS) has been on property for over 5 years and won't finish upgrade OE until summer. After VPS the most junior CA award was in PIE with 6.5 years in after upgrade training. It's highly unlikely that trend will continue for a new hire today. Nobody can predict the future but you can estimate by looking at retirements, top half of the list attrition and where planned growth will be. I'd be shocked if a new hire upgrades in any FL base under 10 years. Outside of VPS there is no room to add planes in FL unless overnights are added. The future growth will mostly be in the new mid continental bases. If anyone reading this thinks this information is misleading then check out an earnings conference call or read a management presentation. https://ir.allegiantair.com I'd plan on it possibly taking 6 months to 2 years to get the FL base you want and 15-20 to upgrade. It will also be a slow crawl to get above the 50% mark in base as an FO. You could be pleasantly surprised if it goes much better than that but expecting anything different would most likely set yourself up for disappointment. Opportunity cost are very high right now with every airline hiring, having short upgrades, excellent contracts/work rules, lots of retirements and growth.
