It’s interesting he and Levy (United CFO) also an Allegiant alum used the same language for their unexpected departures. They both said they were leaving for an undisclosed opportunity...is there a new airline forming in the ULCC space?

He’s a young guy, so i guess now is the time to make a risky move. I’ve always found him to be sharp. I’m sure he’ll be successful.

Very sharp, level-headed professional. Always had time for us, even under very difficult circumstances such as being grilled by an angry mob of pilots over the PBS steamer he got handed.

Another huge loss. I wish him the best, he deserves it.

Certainly a possibility. He and former VP (Ops/Mx) KB were reportedly looking into a ULCC start-up after AL's 2-year non-compete clause expired. That all went bye-bye when AL got the CFO offer at UAL. Interesting that KB followed him and is currently the UAL VP of Tech Ops. Perhaps AL is going back to calling on former colleagues to pursue opportunities in the ULCC sector. Equipped with intimate knowledge of both worlds and a team composed of the likes of LJ, he could be quite a threat.

He dropped his plans for a ULCC to accept a position as CFO, not CEO. Given his desires to run his own airline, I suspect he may have accepted the position hoping to ultimately become the UAL CEO. Who knows, but this is what I wrote on another thread in response to whether AL might come back to AAY:

"Doubtful. AL left AAY quite suddenly, reportedly because he was tired of playing second fiddle to an increasingly stubborn, micro-managing CEO that refused to hand over the reins. AL was a huge component to the success of AAY and looked to settle the growing labor issues and focus on growing the company. Likewise, he probably found himself boxed-in at the highly structured, stuffy UAL. The prospect of becoming President or CEO dissolved when Kirby was hired from AA to be the President and CEO Munoz, a heart-transplant recipient, was showing no signs of stepping down.

Time will tell, but I believe he's looking to take his talent, experience and insight, surround himself with like-minded colleagues, and try his hand at running his own show. JMO"
