I share everyone’s trepidations. When I first saw this announcement, I started to imagine low cost carnivals... AllegiLand, where fun is our deal! Generally speaking, this thread contains a singular tone, one of frustrated disbelief. So I want to play devil’s advocate and go a different direction.
What if this actually works? A revenue stream that is more resistant (or less susceptible) during the next economic downturn. Also, diverse revenue streams would make it possible to have lower base fairs than our competition, maybe considerably lower, allowing us to always have the advantage.
Plus, we already have many subsidiaries like Teesnap LLC and others. Subsidiaries are nothing new. After all, Allegiant Air is a subsidiary of Allegiant Travel. Instead of owning a paper company or oil refinery, we will own a company that rents VR goggles and sells pizza. After a brief search, it appears every airline has several subsidiaries… I know, they are typically airline-related subsidiaries. But what if that’s the whole point, to do it differently?
Moreover, if they had chosen to build G4CE in Vegas or next to Sunseeker resort, would it feel as weird? I personally don’t think so.
I take comfort in the fact that if this little project fails, we will find out quickly and the company won’t be in too deep.

Although I'm personally a little skeptical on whether we should or shouldn't be doing these things (sunseeker, g4ce, etc), I'm willing to wait and see. I'm sure that the company thinks it can make money doing this, let's see how it goes before we assume it's a spectacular failure. Tons of corporations have their fingers in a lot of different pies and it works out from a diversification standpoint. We'll know by the end of next year how a lot of these things are going to go...
For those who are arguing that we should be buying planes instead of doing g4ce etc... I think it's an invalid argument. There have to be planes available to buy in order to buy them. From the rumors I have heard we have been outbid more than once on planes. It's not like they aren't trying (at least rumor wise).
