Base Seniority

Currently the most junior captain is a little less than 4 years on property. That time is increasing. I know it is has been said in here before but everything is incredibly base specific at Allegiant. The only way to upgrade anywhere close to that is to chase whatever new base opens. I am in a senior base and after 3 years I can’t even hold a line as an FO.

There’s simply no way to maintain the super quick upgrade that existed several years ago. The airline doubled in size in a short amount of time, and attrition was also high pre-contract. Realistic time frame to expect an upgrade for a new hire today would be 4-5 years if you chase it to the most junior base, and indefinite if you want to hold out for a senior base.

Yeah. Small bases with no control of your schedule, getting involuntarily tdy’d all month long away from your family, large bases with stagnation and no upgrade in the near future. Pay is descent but other than the fact that you’re home every night there’s no reason to come here unless it’s to pad your resume. If you’re senior life is great. Junior isn’t as rosy.

For a few yes. Sometimes ppl will volunteer if you’re lucky. But if you’re the bottom at a small base and they tdy you’re stuck. Never happened to me thankfully but I feel for the ones it happens to. So may not be a huge company wide issue but an issue for some.

TDY is pretty common. They staff small bases for what they need them to be during busy months, then TDY the junior guys out during slow months to fill the gaps at larger bases. For large bases during busy months they just work you to death. It was said above, but should probably be repeated....life at the top is great, but the farther down the seniority curve you go it gets exponentially worse.
