A vacancy has to be posted after 3 months of VBD/TDY into a base, so that point is not a long term scenario. I'd say that if you are going to move to a new base just to be senior, give it some time to let the dust settle first since others may have the same idea. You have to take some calculated risk in life to reap rewards.
However... I don’t know if I would rely on that happening today. When I got hired upgrades were less than a year, so it wasn’t practical for a FO to change bases in the right seat. Totally different situation now.
Upgrading was a blessing and a curse. Money was great, but it doesn’t even seem like the same airline when you’re junior.
