A newhire is a newhire and even though you're artificially senior in a junior new base you're still the bottom of seniority overall. After the base catches on and line FOs look at their seniority there they will bid it and you will move down. You can also count on senior VBD and TDY pilots bumping you back in your base. So don't go somewhere you hate because you think you'll inflate your seniority because you may end up at the bottom anyhow in a place you hate. Better off to take a base you can tolerate and suck it up with low seniority.
That does happen sometimes but not always. The #1 new hire AVL FO stayed #1 and bid #1 for a couple years until he upgraded in base. Something that is just unheard of in our industry. A vacancy has to be posted after 3 months of VBD/TDY into a base, so that point is not a long term scenario. I'd say that if you are going to move to a new base just to be senior, give it some time to let the dust settle first since others may have the same idea. You have to take some calculated risk in life to reap rewards.

I’m the guy you’re talking about. I did get knocked down by TDY’s a couple of times, but it was an epic run!

However... I don’t know if I would rely on that happening today. When I got hired upgrades were less than a year, so it wasn’t practical for a FO to change bases in the right seat. Totally different situation now.

Upgrading was a blessing and a curse. Money was great, but it doesn’t even seem like the same airline when you’re junior.

So, they are filling the 9/23 class right now, which will be the fourth class. That's 100 pilots just in those four classes. Why do you think they are hiring that many, that fast?
