As of yesterday, it looks like 19 openings left for the February 24th class.

I see they have late Feb. available for new hire. Is anybody able to do some digging see if any March/April/May classes may be available?

We received an update yesterday, right now just Feb 24 was the last class with openings. I thought I read somewhere hiring was projected again for later in the year but can't find where. In any event, things just kind of happen around here when they happen so its entirely possible we could have unexpected hiring throughout the year.

I think there will be, we got a few of those ex-Avianca Brasil A320s ready for induction and the last new hire classes aren't enough.
They keep talking about 600+ routes to be opened, that means we need people.
Also: a class of 22 upgrades has just been scheduled for the beginning of March and another smaller one will be following in April... we don't have the capacity to push through so many at the same time so there has to be a break, but again, we need pilots.

Commuting

Hi guys, I know commuting has been addressed on this forum but just want to see what you think as it pertains to my situation. Currently living in Maryland and looking at moving on from my regional and into one of the LCC/ULCC. I like the idea of Allegiant as it is only day duties but I wont be able to move to a base for a number of years (due wife's career). Is it feasible to commute from MD to say PIT, ABE or AVL and still have some sort of QOL? Looking on Allegiant's website it looks like they only fly BWI to ABE.
Would you say stay or jump ship and get ahead on seniority now?

Thanks again

You could do that if you really wanted to and your seniority would probably be pretty decent in ABE or PIT after 6-12 months but... you’re gonna have a lot of single days off regardless of seniority and unless you want to come here specifically for another base that you would move to a few years down the road, I would go to spirit since they’ve got a rumored BWI base opening.

also, our management is ‘integrity challenged’ and they won’t treat you like the professional you are. You will most likely be treated with much more respect at ANY other airline, including your regional.

We (the pilots) would LOVE to have you and many people are able to make the commute work however, if you come here don’t complain on this forum or our closed group about your schedule or lack of commutability, those who do are incredibly annoying.

Reserve in those smaller bases you mentioned has some of the best QOL in the industry IMO but you'd be flipping it to the worst by not living in base. A lot of my 12 off reserve schedules only have a couple blocks of 3 off and the rest are 2 day blocks and some singles, I do get one occasional 4 off block some months. Due to the lack of frequency/direct flights on those commutes you listed, I don't think you'd be successful very often commuting on your work days. With that being said you could very easily only be home for 2-3 full work/commute free days a month. While tolerable for a shorter period, after years and years in your example that could break a marriage. You could get lucky and get a 15 day off line relatively quick but it won't be in 4 on 4 off blocks since there isn't heavy flying 7 days a week in the smaller bases you mentioned. I personally wouldn't recommend commuting for more than about a year since the schedules are so different from multi-day trip airlines but people have done it.

In my opinion people come here for the day trip lifestyle to live in a base they call home or want to call home. We aren’t the highest paid airline. I would argue that pilots here do not ever want to see this place turn into an airline that does multi day trips with overnights. If that were to ever happen, there really wouldn’t be much of a reason to stay here as any other airline would have a better pay, retirement, and work rules.

i just can’t recommend coming here and commuting. Can it be done? Sure but at what cost? So you can be miserable and your wife and kids be miserable then find yourself in divorce court? Don’t do this to yourself.

my .02 worth.

wow, are you gonna commute from Yemen? Or just shopping for a gf upgrade? You could probably pull that off at your local Applebee’s, but some guys love a challenge......

I live in LAS and am thinking of sending in an app for Allegiant. What happens if I got a CJO and was not awarded LAS out of training. I have no plans to move but would not have any issues commuting for a bit. Would I basically be required to rent an apartment wherever I was assigned until I could hold Vegas?

As a prior mil guy the perk of being home most nights is very attractive.

Thanks!
