Default Pros and Cons of Allegiant

Someone started this same thread on the Frontier forum...just curious how you all view your airline in a pro/con format. Thanks!

Wow the next generation sure is averse to actually doing research. They want everything spoon fed to them.

Things change. You can’t always rely on a 2 year old thread on a message board.

Well, I think Margaritaville summed up their work atmosphere for you. Don't worry, when Indigo buys Allegiant and merges the two companies, you'll be part of Frontier anyway. Better focus your attention on the Frontier thread.

Pros:

-Day trips -Lots of base options to fit any lifestyle
-Diversified business model (think "a swamp real estate company that happens to fly airplanes")
-High share price with a non corresponding market cap-a chance to fly a shiny new A320 classic-great pilot group (not sarcastic on that one)

Cons:

-predatory pilot hating management
-not commutable in general
-poor seniority progression potential at many bases due to micro base model
-swamp-teamsters
-allegiant

Caveat: I don't work there

Been here for 8 years and the airline has changed a lot. Some good and some bad... Don't expect the management to care about anything but the bottom line and their profits. Stock price and dividend buy back is the priority- Period. That said, if you happen to live in an Allegiant base and value the benefits of not pulling your world along in a suitcase then maybe it's for you. Good schedules heavily favor the senior pilots and if your on reserve you'll be fed to the wolves. Anyone in the middle expect straight shiftwork and single days off. Don't commute for this airline!

If you expect soft pay and an easy ride, wouldn't waste your time applying at Allegiant. But for some like me, who live in base (was here before the airline), don't mind working for their money and understand that were are still fighting tooth and nail to improve our contract, you will enjoy Allegiant.

My opinion anyhow.

I mostly agree however, it’s kind of depends on what base you are in. Reserve in a small base that isn’t Florida can be great for a junior reserve. That is if you values never working and making min guarantee. That being said being junior in a base can mean being flushed out with a new vacancy bid or being TDY out of base. Reserved in a Florida base is a living hell. It’s almost a guarantee you will be Limoed to another base to works a trip and then limo back to your base in the very early hours of the morning. Also limo = lyft, car service, rental car depending on who is working in scheduling that day.

Commuting is not ideal but is possible with a few caveats:

1.) Being a lie holder in base
2.) Willing to work weekends (I work either Fri, Sat, Sun or Sat, Sun, Mon as a junior line holder and commuter)
3.) living within 4 hours driving distance to a base is better than flying into base. I’ve done both and the first option has worked better for me because our bases don’t usually have a lot of commuting options.
