I’m a PHL E190 FO hired Jan 2017. I have 2 miscommutes, neither while on probation. First was a diversion. 2nd was a rolling maintenance delay and my 2nd flight already had 2 reserved jumpseats. I got a call from a PHL chief and a PEH entry for both. First time it was from TA and the second time it was from DJ. I will say that both PEH entries noted my good faith efforts to get to work and did not have a disciplinary tone. I filled out an APA observers report and got an email reply saying that nothing could be done.

I wouldn’t get too wound up about it. Try to be in base when you need to, and be extra careful while on probation. I called in missed commute once on probation while based in PHL (different CP’s though) I went in to see the CP on my own to apologize, it wasn’t a big deal. If you’re based in PHL, get a crash pad in Essington, they are cheap and plenty of Irish pubs to hang out in if you don’t get a trip.

This is a discussion of what truly is wrong with this airline. A single individual (NYC Chief Pilot) has put the fear into new hires about missing commutes. If they hire a person like that then they truly don’t give a crap about anyone’s personal life. Just because some loser Chief has no life outside this airline doesn’t mean his pilots don’t. I don’t know who is saying this to new hires but they should not be in a management position. I’m guessing he is a widebody local guy who has never sat shortcall or long call reserve. Doesn’t really matter what his background is any way. He is a jerk and we work for him. The nonsense coming out of senior managements mouths about making this a great place to work is clearly not heartfelt or trickling down to lower managers. DO NOT TRUST ANYONE in management. They will skewer you in a heartbeat. They are not going through what you are and will never understand the problems you have.
Save as much money as you can. I’ve found that as my nest egg has accumulated my giving a crap about my commute has decreased. I missed one commute so far. I was an A1 and the flight cancelled. They still gave me a hard time. This place will never change.

The chiefs know who butters their bread, and it's not line pilots.
