Long term training is the term for it, Chuck Yeager. It's not a description of how long it actually is. But if we want to go there, it's much longer than 1 month when accounting for ground, Sims, and OE.

The question is this: how many military guys recently hired are going to bail for Delta? Seeing the state of AA and Delta profit sharing. Seems that's the only hope for a raise is when a slug of them defect.
Seems people will stay for the retirements, but Delta has a bunch too.

As someone who flies with new hires all the time I’d say not many will leave. The reasons they came to AA were the retirements and seniority opportunities.

Delta is a much better run company right now obviously, but things like contracts and CEOs come and go during a 30 year airline career. Who knows

I would say, not a significant number, maybe 20 to 25 a year. I’m not counting on military defections getting us a raise.

Not very many. Domicile location and retirements are the top factors to those separating from the military. A handful will leave AA for DAL/UAL/SW/FX/UPS. A handful will leave those for AA.

The time to get hired at Delta was 2014. Great company to work for, great contract, great management... for now. But those getting hired in 2019-2020 have completely missed the front of the hiring wave at Delta. We are arguably beyond Peak Delta. Still a fantastic place to work, especially if you want to live in a Delta domicile.

I’m sure that’s not the answer you wanted.

Not counting on it either but it was apparently the reason we got the 8% raise outside of section six a few years back. That so angered outside investors.

That is a false narrative. We were only losing less than 25 new hire pilots a year back then. We’ve only lost 27 1st year pilots since July this year and we’re hire 3 times as many now. There never has been a problem recruiting pilots here.

I never said there has been a problem recruiting pilots here. And there won't be a problem, because there are so many regional people available. I'm specifically referring to military new hires. This is the group who appears to be getting multiple offers at once from the Legacy group. There is that much hiring now.
So you think Parker laid an 8 % pay raise on the pilots and 5 % on the F/A group on a lark? All outside section 6.
This is a CEO who has made a career out of paying less than industry standard to his employees. The same guy who capitalized immensely on the AWA LUS pilot dispute for years, and insisted a pay raise could not be forthcoming until there was an agreement. Then, he does just what he said he couldn't do, give raises outside an agreement. He had to give the 8% because the people recruitment wanted were not coming, and were leaving.
I'm thinking the defections increase now that Delta continues to pull away and our rankings sink. And you are not even going to get the figures on how many military guys tell the hiring office " thanks for the offer, but no thanks. " because UA and Delta offered a job concurrently.
I think it's starting to happen at higher frequency.
