This is a completely false rumor spread by those that didn't know how to read the seniority list. In 2016 AA recalled all pilots that had been on furlough over the past decade. Many of these pilots had since gone to numerous other 121 carriers or had taken other jobs. If they didn't come back in 2016 they were forced to resign from AA forever and that made it look like the seniority list had a ton of resignations in 2016. Despite many of these pilots being hired in the early 2000's, they were still fairly close to the bottom of the seniority list. When the 8% raise happened in spring 2017 some uneducated pilots looked at the seniority list and concluded that the reason for the raise had to be because of the resignations. Many even made up facts saying that 20% of AA new hires were leaving from every class. This was all completely false.

The true reasons for Parker giving the pilots and the flight attendants a raise may never be known but I'm sure he had ulterior motives. What is false however is that it was due to an inability to recruit pilots or flight attendants. Also, I can't imagine a pilot out there that would care one bit that flight attendants got a raise and there definitely hasn't been any problem recruiting new flight attendants.

so you are saying Doug Parker simply gave those raises out of the goodness of his heart.....True. AA pilot recruitment never had a shortage of pilots to choose from. Kimball Stone was however, having issues with the military guys he so loves to hire taking other airlines with increasing frequency. In addition, service was struggling with poor morale in both pilot and f/a ranks. So it addressed that as well.
Unbelievable. "the true reasons for Parker giving the pilots and the flight attendants a raise may never be known...."
This has to be the strangest explanation ever made. He gave the raises because he was losing pilots and having trouble attracting same from the military guys who had multiple choices of where to go. That's known. The flight attendants were sinking in service and not attracting top tier candidates as well. How long have you worked for Parker? He has ALWAYS had the lowest labor costs.

It used to be common knowledge that he gave out those raises as classic miss direction.
Word was mgmt got outrageous raises at that time and he bundled that cost with all the labor raises, also distracted the labor groups from becoming outraged since they were preoccupied with their own raises.

Kinda sorta true. It was required per the merger agreement that for upper management to get their bonuses, labor had to be market rate.

Not factoring the debate of which plane (737 or 320) is more enjoyable to fly, my question is which will provide a better short term QOL commuting from FLL to MIA? I can only assume that trips originating out of FLL go rather senior and I know it will be years before I can competitively bid these trips as an FO. Is there a better aircraft for increasing the chances of acquiring originating trips out of FLL? Or are the FLL originating pairings pretty equal across both airframes? Then, also looking into the future I have been told the 320XLR should be a factor in my initial choice with a lot of them heading for MIA.

The XLR’s won’t be going to MIA. Those will be in the northeast (JFK & PHL) to do short Europe routes.

I’m looking to flow in the next few months and I had a few questions and clarifications if y’all wouldn’t mind. Links to good threads for NHs would be awesome too.

1. Are classes run every two weeks or twice a month?

2.Day one usually starts on Tuesday?

3. I’m guessing a combination of LAX, NY, MIA, 320,737, Dom, and Int. will be my options along with the possibility of PHX or another base. I really have no clue what to pick. I live in DFW and I’m trying to get a list of pros and cons. First is there a thread out there I’m not finding that has this information already? Any suggestions or advice on the commute, schedule, Crashpad, red eyes, or any thing else I should be considering would be greatly appreciated. (I am aware of the 320 not currently being co domiciled but the 73 seems to get you back to DFW a bit faster.)

4.Are most flows in the first class of the month or is it split evenly?

5. I assume picking your seat is based on age. What base and equipment goes senior or junior?

Thanks!

1) every two weeks

2) first day of orientation is on a Tuesday

3) out west you have commutable trips with mostly backside of the clock flying, NY is well NY, MIA takes about 6 to 8 months to hold a line. LA bus only one base, 73 is multiple bases.

4) Envoy send ½ the class or the max number in the first class, the remainder in the second. PSA and PDT varies, Mostly on the second class.

5) The bus tends to go more senior while the E190 is more junior but it depends on people and bases offered.

Any idea how long it takes to hold a line in MIA on the bus?
