No new hire in their right mind can afford to live in LA so it is no wonder that LAX is one of the most junior bases for FO's now hence given to new hires.

The only reason new hires are getting DFW is because they are going to the S80. They will all be displaced within 2 years as the S80 goes away and it will be unlikely to hold DFW on anything else when they do unless the 737 or A320 bid status' grow significantly at DFW.

190’s went junior this class. Senior (top 10?) last time.

Serious question will be how many STL pilots displace DFW S80 new hires? 60 plus FOs being displaced and commuting regardless. Why train before you have to.

Just at a quick glance the most junior STL pilot can hold wide body in LGA, MIA, PHL and DFW. I imagine those that are worries about training will stay S80 but everyone else will bid something heavy. If you have to commute might as well work as little as possible.

Displacement is free. They can bid any job their seniority can hold with no lock-in. If it doesn’t work out they can bid a second job.

First year pay of ~$86k is too little to live in (near) the LAX area for a year until jumping to ~$130k+? Perhaps the new hire who CAN'T do that is the one not in their right mind.

Not doubting that LA, and California in general, is more expensive than the US average but a little bit of fiscal responsibility and budgeting goes a long way. Lots of people would kill to have a job that makes $86k.

But hey, if you want to up that first year pay in the next contract cycle I surely won't complain. I'd even offer to take that LAX slot off your hands.
