Default How long for new hire to hold DFW?

I'm sure this has been asked before but I know there has been a lot of movement at AA lately:

Any idea how long until a new hire could bid DFW, either reserve or line? Any particular aircraft that would be faster?

Thanks!

Currently it is at 21 months just to hold bottom of the list in DFW.

PRS,
This comment got my attention... on background, I will be living near Dallas and AA is my first choice. How are the commutes from the mothership to the junior bases (I'm thinking LAX, MIA, LGA are likely places to spend on early reserve / jr lines)?

My gut tells me hub-to-hub commuting on company metal should be easy, but I want to avoid assumptions in case any particular junior domicile is significantly better/worse than the rest...

Thoughts?

MIA - DFW used to be, and might still be, on of the worst commutes. DFW senior, MIA junior = guys commuting for bigger jets, more seniority, or to hold a line.

DFW - PHL might be better. New commuter patterns.

Look for AB instead of 737's to commute on. 2 vs 1 Jumpseat.

Junior DFW, eff. December, is 8 months on property.

S80. Might be displaced and unable to hold the 737/AB next year.

I commute DFW-NYC. More often than not, I'm in the jump seat. Talking with my friends who commute to MIA, the jump seat is the norm on that commute as well. LAX seems the best commute of the three, plenty of flights, some red eye options.

Depending on what fleet you are on, NYC has some unique issues. On the 73, we cover all three airports (LGA, JFK, EWR). It's hard to find a crash pad thats convenient to all three airports. LGA to JFK isn't bad, but LGA/JFK to EWR is a huge level of suck. It's close to three hours on the airporter bus, or a $100+ cab/Uber ride.

The first flight from DFW won't get you to the NYC area before 11:00, and the last flight home leaves LGA at 20:00 (EWR is 18:10). There is no redeye option either way.

On the plus side DFW-LGA is all airbus, so there are two jump seats.

We have pretty much decided moving somewhere thats an easier commute, or drivable is the best option.

As Sliceback eluded to, I'd look at PHL & CLT. Mainly because, most guys living in DFW are LAA and probably haven't even though about switching to an LUS base. Pilots get used to a base and tend to stick with it until they can get their home base at least. You even only mentioned LAA bases, so it shows that that's a common thought practice. I'm CLT based and travel to DFW for military duty occasionally (don't live in either, but that's another story). I've found the CLT/DFW commute to be pretty easy, much better than my DEN/DFW commute. With that said, PHL/DFW is pretty good too and better seniority in PHL.

Can you not hold Dfw? I don’t get the hub to hub commute thing. I’d rather sit FO than commute to CA any day of the week.

I'm right around 2,000 numbers from either the bottom G2 captain or G4 fo in DFW. And then several more years on reserve once I get back. I've only got a little under 15 years left, and I'd prefer to not be junior forever, so the plan has always been to move to a more junior base. There isn't anywhere near NYC we have any desire to live, so I'll suck it up and commute until I can hold MIA, then we are outta here.

The difference between reserve G2 ca pay and 85 hours/month of G2 fo pay is pretty substantial.
