A330 lda- hnl

So, going into HNL yesterday and heard an AAL crew tell HNL approach they aren’t approved for the LDA 26L. It appeared to be an A330.

Is this true? You’d think an A330 would be capable of such an approach.

Thank you in advance.

Afaik, we only fly 321’s, 757’s, and 777’ into HNL. Not sure which one of those maybe can’t do an LDA. We can in the 321’s, at least.

They fly a 330 to/from PHX

Are you asking if the plane is capable of doing it or if they are approved to do it?

LDA/GS and LDA/DME with GS are authorized.

It probably is more a certification (aka money) issue than a capability issue.

I could be wrong, but I don't think LDAs or BCs approaches were ever allowed in Europe.

I don't see why not.

Well when you put it in the box, if you have a GS (i.e. 3.0) between way points.

We do side steps in training. Sometimes you gotta earn that pilot pay.

So- are we surmising the crew just didn't want to do the approach, and was gaming for some other method to get in to HNL?

Or was there an MEL that limited their abilities to do an LDA? I don't know, just throwing out ideas.

Which would be a bummer, since they specifically stated- "We are not authorized for the LDA."

Maybe they wanted to practice the RNP?
just an idea.

I don't see LDA without a GS listed as an authorized procedure in the AA A330 OM.....
