Default Airbus A321 LAX-HNL

Hi everyone,
Last time I went to HNL, I noticed that AA flies from LAX with a 321.
Could somebody share what kind of payload you guys manage to uplift?
The distance LAX-HNL should be about 2100nm so I'm guessing a flight time of about 5 to 5.5hrs with no wind. A classic A321 burns about 6000lbs/hr so that would be about 30 to 33000 lbs of fuel plus about 6000lbs or reserve?
MTOW of 196k? and a DOW of about 106k?, that should leave with a payload of about 50-55k?
Is that about right? and is that enough to fill up the aircraft with PAX and bags?
Thanks in advance

Typical flying time KLAX-PHNL is between 5+15 and 5+40. Biggest problem with the A321 is getting it out of PHOG back to KLAX and not having to remove payload to do it.

From what I understand Honolulu and Kona are not issues for the 321. Maui and Lihue are the main issues, due to the short runway.

The 321's we use regularly take off at about 200,000-205,000 pounds on the runs to HNL and KOA. Occasionally we'll go out with full tanks, but more often the fuel load is in the 49,000 pound range. Enroute burn can be 35,000 to 40,000 due to filed altitudes around 280-320. Frequently full with 181 pax and 6 crew, occasionally a jumpseater. OGG and LIH are the two with weight restrictions for departure, due to the shorter runways. Typically they plan for about 155-165 pax out of LIH and about 170-175 out of OGG.

Thank you for the informative replies. Is AA getting NEO's? I imagine they would probably increase seat count with it.

Yes. We are getting the NEOs. 3 or so years ago there was talk that we’d use the 737 MAX on some of these routes, but then they ordered them non ETOPs... so it looks like Airbuses to Hawaii until Boeing decides to make a 757 replacement.

It looks like Boeing is making more of a 767 replacement. (Decision supposedly coming this year if the proposed EIS date of 2025 is to be honored).
The "797" would be a twin aisle widebody above floor level but only enough space for one cargo container so essentially a narrow body below floor level.
200-280 seats beyond 5000NM
The 321LR NEO is supposedly able to do about 80% of current 757 routes so it seems as if this is the closest 757 we would get. (Airbus is also supposedly considering making a 322)
Interesting times ahead.

Great info. Why isn’t American flying the 757 on these 2 routes if that’s the case?
