Default Street Hires

Hey Guys!

I was at Envoy for 4 years before leaving for a corporate gig. Been flying corporate, charter, and now aeromedical. Just wondering how many guys AAL is hiring off the streets.

Projected approximately 300 off the street hires for 2018 with 2/3 - 3/4 of those being military.

If AA hires 40 in a month for example, 20 from envoy, 10 psa, 5 or 6 piedmont, which leaves about 5 slots for street hires of which 3-4 will be military. So 1/40 chance. If AA was your goal, perhaps staying at envoy would have gotten you there quicker, but hindsight is 20/20. The good news for you is envoys percentage will continue to decrease and eventually be capped at a max of 15 pilots a month or 35% of classes allowing more slots for street hires. So hope for huge classes from AA which will dilute the flows.

Short answer - civilian? Not many.

Planned is 80/month. 45 OTS per month?
Last year OTS was 79% military. Avg of 9 civilian OTS per month? 110 this year?

Don't forget that quite a few of the off the street, non-military guys actually come from the AA WO. PSA has had a handful go to AA outside of the flow in 2017 (mostly CP's or LCA/Recruiters).

56% are flows. The data I provided was pure OTS hiring excluding flows.

Not that it will mean much in the long term, but today's new hire class had 25 flows and just 1 street hire.

Even more interesting is the fact that the one OTS guy is corporate, no prior 121 or military.

Easy to see, strong desire to be at AA; well spoken with some great stories of personal service, maybe a unique TMAAT story that comes with corporate flying. After a dozen RJ pilots with their eyes glazed over, they loved him or her.
