Default BOD/lack of confidence/negotiations

I’m hearing about massive dysfunction in the BOD affecting the negotiating committee. We have had two great guys walk from the committee recently. I think APA could tank section 6.

Read the LAX update.

Doesn’t sound very good.

I don't know any of the particulars but one of the recently departed negotiators was Andy N. He wasn't there very long. He served on the EGL Negotiating Committee for years and numerous small gains outside of Section 6 were made during his tenure. To be clear- that can only happen with willing participants on both sides, but he had a mutually respectful relationship with management, and both sides benefited.

Andy so impressed the NMB that he took a Leave of Absence to join them. When he left, the EGL MEC Vice Chair commented that he was generally the smartest guy in the room during negotiating sessions.

As I said, I don't know the particulars but losing that caliber of an individual so soon after getting them is indicative of the systemic dysfunction of this (dis)union.

In general I've found this to be the fault of our union leaders. They are just too "f the company" and unrealistic most of the time in an attempt to garner support (votes). Carey has been vilified for being a company guy yet look what we've gotten under him. The USAPA guys were the worst especially PHL.

What did he get us?

He had absolutely nothing to do with the raise or profit sharing.... That was mgmt.

And he managed to turn the holiday meltdown into mostly concessions. (We actually agreed to pay for all the overtime in section 6.)

Carey ain’t done a damned thing except take care of himself. I sure wish we could recall him before we go into negotiations
