Default RECALL of the President

DCA Pilots,

It has been my honor to serve you these last 6 years. I dropped into the Bankruptcy followed by the Merger and JCBA. It is now time for someone else to help build the next CBA which hopefully brings better Quality of Life and not just pay increases. Hold your elected representatives accountable for your future.

I feel obligated to inform you of how APA has transformed under our President and BOD. July 1, 2016 our new President, without consulting the BOD, immediately fired APA's General Counsel Ed James, the Safety Committee, and threatened to fire Aeromedical Manager Marsha Reekie. It seems he didn't cater to Reekie giving medical advice to a management pilot he didn't like. Reekie survived. He also started taking an average of 112 hours flight pay over the next 6 months. Annually, this is an increase of $82,094 over his campaign promise of 90 hours.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=...&v=LozCJNb-6Fc

The BOD subsequently passed a resolution paying monthly the President 110 hours and the Vice President and Sec/Treasurer 105 hours monthly. Why bring this up? I reference it to show the President's continuing pattern of excessive use of membership dues. The facts and financials are concerning to me and should be to you.

He hired his close lawyer friend George Buckley and associate as APA's General Counsel (GS). GS transformed from an “As Needed Consultant” to an “in house” manager of the APA Legal. Staff Lawyers have lost their independence now must consult GS on all actions.

APA Fiscal Year 2018 Budget (7/1/18-6/30/18): All without BOD consultation

-7/1/17-12/31/17 General Counsel traveled 53 days for $196,000, +expenses $16,500, +air travel $12,000.

-July $30,017 Irish Times Newspaper Ad for Norwegian Air threat

-$5,000 Dragon Youth Football donation as favor to National Committee member

-$18,000/year APA Chaplain as favor to same National Committee member

-$3,000 Donation as favor to APA Staff employee

-Sept. $30,552 Irish Times Newspaper Ad for Ryanair

-Sept. $14,118 donation to Avianca Pilots union from APA Family Awareness Committee funds ($10,000 to their strike fund)

-$20,196 President and wife airfare to Sydney Australia. Charged APA Credit Card in Violation of APA Policy Manual-lack of 2 National officer signatures. Repaid APA full amount.

-Nov. $16,000 for GC Buckley to attend 2 day Dublin Conference (President attended)

-Nov. $3,360 Dublin bar bill- Ryanair

-$18,000 Fall Texas Stadium Committee Appreciation dinner originally budgeted at $10,000

-Approximately 90% of President travel is un-budgeted ($47,000 travel budget)

-Currently 44% over his travel budget for this year

-$137,400 2017 Annual Paid Union (PU) Leave to National Communications Committee Ad Hoc member (friend), 3 months making more PU than Communications Chairman.

-$2,500+ for same Communications Ad Hoc member to attend 4.5 day University of California Safety Course. (why is a Communications member attending Safety Courses?)

APA Fiscal Year 2019 Budget (7/1/18-6/30/19):

$550,000 APA still utilized Attorney James and Hoffman for their expertise

$600,000 George Buckley, APA General Counsel

-includes $3500/day when traveling on APA business

-$350/hour at other times

$300,000 Buckley Associate lawyer ($900,000 additional for new General Counsel lawyers)

-APA President’s Travel Budget:

2016- $23,000

2017- $25,000

2018- $47, 000

2019- $136,000 (186% increase)

There has been an unusually large number of national committee members and staff leaving. Frustration, fear, confusion, and uncertainty permeate APA Headquarters.

Resigned:

Contract Compliance Committee Chairman

Training Committee Chairman/Deputy/+5 others

Flight Time/Duty Time Chairman

2 Negotiating Committee Chairmen

Government Affairs Committee Chairman

2 Membership Committee Chairmen

Uniform Committee Chairman

1 Staff Lawyer

Fired by President:

Security Committee Chairman

CDAC Committee Chairman

2 Training Committee members for posting on C&R and Sound Offs

Safety Committee-all members

1 Staff Lawyer-Director of Legal

Executive Secretary

Uniform Committee terminated by President-Reintroduced by the BOD

General Counsel Ed James

Removed by the BOD:

President's International Alliance Committee Chair (President reappointed Communication Committee Ad Hoc member)

President's Security Chairman

APA Chaplain via motion

The President doesn't work at APA very much. The Vice President handles the Presidential duties including committees and daily union business. CA Carey refuses to keep the BOD inform on his monthly work schedule. BOD members have requested his attendance records via his security card access to APA headquarters which he has refused to approve. He now says he doesn't use the access card implying those records would be inaccurate.

This is your union. You have the ultimate control of your representatives. Make sure your voice is heard.

In Unity,

Carl

ALPA. If anything, it will send a strong message.

Transparency anyone?

ALPA wouldn’t fix a damned thing.

It could actually make stuff worse. The dickheads in charge of APA have already formed an exploratory committee.... the only thing they are exploring is how to make that as corrupt as possible.

We will fix this turd of a union. We know how to vote, and we will. No ALPA needed.

We got this!

I will be voting anti-incumbant when it comes up.

Time for new blood.

This is a political stunt full of mischaracterizations and misrepresentations. Very poor form.

As a former ALPA member, I couldn't agree more. DAL pilots are in charge over there, and they are looking out for themselves and themselves only.

You might want to read the news about NAI and the ME3 cratering and all the ALPA led legislative victories in the FAA reauthorization bill.

ALPA+APA is a home run for pilots.

The numbers could be a good thing, but the problem with APA is the corruption.

ALPA wouldn’t fix that-at all. My regional ALPA was arguably just as corrupt as APA.

If your anti-ALPA argument starts with "but at my regional" or "seniority list integration" it really isn't relevant to using ALPA to fix our completly broken APA situation, right now.

Trading one corrupt union for another corrupt union is a waste of everyone's time, money, and energy, as I stated in the Miami thread.
