BOS Reserves

Some questions for the current/prior BOS folks...

Do BOS reserves cover any other airports? Seems like SC tends to go fairly senior with LC going junior. Is that normal or just a recent/summer thing? How's the flying as a reservist? Decent trips? Used much? I'll also take any commuter info. I'll be commuting from DTW if anyone has specifics on that. Looks like 12 flights/day on DAL, JB, and Spirit.

Thanks!

Assuming you're talking about AA and not jetblue, why would you go to BOS if you're commuting from DTW? BOS is incredibly senior. From DTW, PHL and LGA are far better options.

I can't hold anything in PHL other than the 190 which I'm already on and have an opportunity to get out of now without a withhold when I return from mil leave. The commute to LGA is all regional flights so I can't book the JS and the fact that you have to cover LGA, JFK, and EWR kills it for me. I can hold a line there but again the 3 airport coverage makes the commute even worse as there are only a few DAL/UAL flights to JFK or EWR. Having a crash pad between LGA and JFK doesn't make sense with the EWR coverage.

MIA is likely what I'll choose as I'm on the edge of holding a line and the commute is decent. I'm looking at BOS mostly because it's the easiest commute for me from DTW. 12 flights/day between DAL, JB, and Spirit. 19 JSs/day on those flights. Only have to cover BOS and, at least recently, LC has been going junior.

Long call goes junior bc a lot of senior guys live in base and bid short call.

Is that fairly normal though or just a seasonal thing?

That’s fairly normal man. In all the senior bases at least.

You gotta cover 3 airports in MIA also. Why not ORD though?

BOS is a great base but hard to predict what you will get if you are junior. If you get a bad line there’s not much OT to swap it out with.

I would strongly reconsider NYC if you have any type of seniority. You can trade pretty easily if you get a bad trip/airport.

ORD is my ultimate goal but I can’t hold it yet. I’ll take another look at LGA. I’ve been reading a lot lately about how no one seems to be able to drop/trade trips and it had me a bit worried. I can definitely hold a line there.
