The manufacturers get it right, or they don't. The Gulfsteam G650 serves as an excellent example. The NTSB uncovered all kinds of absolute garbage where effectively, the airplane was being certified by the marketing dept.
...

I am curious about the G650. Could you please post some more reference regarding this "uncovered... garbage"?

My point exactly. It doesn't help that the FAA is rudderless ship.

“Very stable genius”...just look at his perfect college transcripts and off-the-chart board test scores...um, oh yeah, never mind!

How are those tax returns coming along?

I'm going to guess you are the proud owner of one of those pink hats.

A few hundred people have been killed in a short period of time in a specific aircraft. I don't think it's unreasonable to ground the fleet until the cause can be determined. Way to inject your politics into the situation though. I'm sure if your boyfriend were one of the casualties, you'd be singing a different tune.

Better a pink hat than a red MAGA one!

And at least Putin isn’t the boyfriend of anyone in a pink hat...oh wait, can you count it as “boyfriend” when it’s just a 3am “come over now” call? Poor LittleHands ... he will never be no. 1 with Vlad ...

The relevant takeaway from all of these posts is that, in America, elected officials should defer to duly empowered experts. If the experts screw up, there is a remedy, and we can emplace new experts. Countries where the imperial leader make decisions they’re not qualified to make — and we will leave aside what on earth THIS guy would actually be qualified to make — are called dictatorships ... or banana republics.

Despite what the media is saying, it wasn't Trump; it was the FAA's decision to ground the MAX. Per the FAA website:

The FAA is ordering the temporary grounding of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft (PDF) operated by U.S. airlines or in U.S. territory. The agency made this decision as a result of the data gathering process and new evidence collected at the site and analyzed today. This evidence, together with newly refined satellite data available to FAA this morning, led to this decision.

The grounding will remain in effect pending further investigation, including examination of information from the aircraft’s flight data recorders and cockpit voice recorders. An FAA team is in Ethiopia assisting the NTSB as parties to the investigation of the Flight 302 accident. The agency will continue to investigate.

The question I have is whether the FAA knew about MCAS. If they did, why did they decide to withhold the info from operators? Or did Boeing not tell the FAA about it?
