Default Looking to move to the MIA area...

Currently living in north Florida. We are looking to make a move down closer to the MIA area.

Family and I will be down there this weekend and we were wanting to take a quick look around some areas Saturday. Nothing too crazy just trying to get a feel for the area. I have a good idea what we’re getting into but my wife has never spent any time down in south Florida.

Can anyone recommend any specific areas within a 1-2 hour drive of the MIA airport that have decent communities / good schools etc we should check out? Thanks!

I used to live in Palm Beach Gardens, It's a solid hour to 1.5 from MIA. About 20 mins from PBI and 45-an hour from FLL. South Florida is constantly getting more expensive. I loved the area it was convenient with mostly good schools. That being said, its gotten very expensive recently.

If you want to push it check out Port St Lucie, its much cheaper, but it will certainly add a bunch to the drive.

If you like the country feel check out Jupiter Farms, it's getting pricier, but you have a quieter lifestyle out that way. People have horses and other animals etc. My mother in law lives there. It's nice.

I left South Florida because I didn't want to commute to CLT anymore, that being said there is nothing really wrong with it, just expensive. My dollar is definitely able to go further here than it was there. Can't speak to central FL or further north. I met a a guy who drives from the Okeechobee area to MIA recently, probably a 3 hour drive, I am sure its pretty cheap out there.

Good luck to ya.

Did you flow already?

You should check out Naples if Dade/Broward/palm beach don’t meet your needs.

Many pilots live in Stuart/Jensen Beach, and others live in Naples/Marco Island.

Thanks Fly! I have heard a couple people mention Palm Beach Gardens no so that’s definitely on the list of places to check out.

No, I haven’t flowed yet. I’m looking at about 2 years or so until I flow unless something changes. Long story short, my wife and daughter both have super bad allergies to a lot of the trees here where we live. To the point that it’s almost debilitating. So we want to move regardless of flowing soon or not. And might as well kill 2 birds with 1 stone and move somewhere I’m interested in being based long-term if/when I flow.

I lived in Stuart, Palm City, Jensen Beach area when I was in flight school. That area is very nice!

In Florida, the more south you go the more north you get.

Westin, Boca Raton, Jupiter, Naples. Schools are garbage everywhere else.

Weston is nice, if a bit pricey. Great schools though.
Friend moved to Parkland not long ago, really likes it there.
