Default American ever gonna start service overseas?

United just started south Africa and flies to India, Singapore, etc. Delta has been flying to Johannesburg for some time. American completely avoids the whole Asia, oceanic, and African market.

American goes to south America and Europe and a few places in china/Japan.

But what about the the other 2/3 of the world?

Like the others, AA can sell tickets to Africa, Asia, and Oceanic markets, they just do it thru British Airways, Cathay Pacific, and Japan Airlines

They’re afraid of the planes disappearing into space when they get to the edge of this flat earth. Better safe than sorry....

Yet the company emails keep referring to AA as a “global airline.” Whatever.

They have addressed multiple times they would like to serve India and Africa once
more 787s arrive.

I could care less where or what we fly as long as we are profitable and employees are getting industry-leading compensation.

India has some issues with yield, even their own (formerly large) domestic carrier, Jet Airways, looks like it will shut down soon. Think of Jet as our version of Alaska.

Our issue in China/Asia is organic demand, ie, people from those countries buying tickets on us. The vast majority of our tickets are bought by folks originating in the US. That needs to change in order to be successful overseas. I think part of the problem is the "American" name in general, honestly.

I don't know anything about Africa.

Why fly there when China-Southern can do it for us! I think we bought into them......and assume they’re now part of the alliance too.

Are Sydney and Auckland considered part of “a few places in china/Japan”?

Some markets don’t generate enough yield....if the airplane is redeployed elsewhere it can make more money. American did Delhi and Moscow out of ORD several years ago, but both were discontinued due to yield. The Oneworld Alliance gets people where they need to go.
