I think JetBlue is hoping to get bought / merge with someone more than compete in that market space.

Isom said something about the 321XLR in a LGA town hall the other day. Made it sound like he was contemplating transatlantic service with it. I bet if the company succeeds in keeping the 321 group II they would hit secondary European markets with it.

I doubt they will fly to lhr with the 321. To buy a slot there is a multi million dollar cost then add to that lhr has some of the highest fees of any airport in the world. An a 321 which will be configured with probably about 166 seats or so is a money losing idea. To fly into the you want to use the biggest plane with the most fc seats you can get. There is a reason why as flies the 777-300 in there so often.

We don’t use the 757 from NY to London. All international out of JFK is777. JetBlue is going to struggle to compete. I think it was announced in hopes of spurring a takeover offer. After Norwegian and Wow’s performance I don’t think the big 3 are scared of a low cost narrow body across the pond. Unless it has the unlimited financial backing of a ME3 carrier.
The deck is really stacked against JetBlue being successful with this route. My guess is they will get their butts kicked. So much for the ME3's unlimited financial backing. |
