In general, no, You need to understand that the American operation is understaffed with pilots compared to the competition. Between that fact and the contract, the quality of life is worse relative to Delta and United (and honestly, compared to Spirit too).

Schedule? You want to know what our schedules are like? Imagine having a portly fellow come up behind you, pull your underwear up and over your head..all the while a midget is using your nutz for boxing practice.

That's your AA schedule in a nut shell.. especially for the first year if you're a commuter.

Well I can tell you a NYC 737 FO on property for ~five years had a schedule with 18 off and 10 legs for the month. That was his normal line with no drops yet. That included a couple days trips so I'd imagine those could be dropped, and two of the trips were trailing red eyes ending at 730AM. That was just one I happened to pick.

If you want to work hard for 10 months you can take a paid 2 months off with imax.

If this has already been addressed recently, my apologies.

1) if you know the process and rules, is it relatively easy to drop down to 18-20 days off a month once you're a line holder?
2) if you can't drop or trade out of a trip, do you have the option of posting it for trade, maybe offering in extra cash to another pilot to sweeten the deal?
3) are there pilots who drop most of their awarded schedule to pickup premium open time later in the month?
4) do pilots intentionally bid reserve to stay home all month if they live in domicile?

Thanks

This has indeed all been addressed, and the way you word your questions makes it seem like you already know the answers.

2. yes
