Default Headset question

I was considering buying a new headset for myself, I’m a new hire on the Airbus, I see that some of the aircraft have dual plugs and some have the 5 pin xlr. Which should I buy? Should I buy the XLR with a dual plug adapter or the dual plug with an XLR adapter? Or does it even matter?

Most go with two plug and then get the adapter. This is what I did and I’m glad I did.

I did the opposite. I bought a 5 pin, and then an adapter that makes it into a 2 plug. I did this because I found that the majority of the Airbus's have the 5 pin plug setup. Either way will work fine though.

Some of the two plug airplanes don't with with my a20 on the mic plug. I'm going to order the xlr-2 plug and double adapt to remedy this.

I think the issue is the mic plug isn't long enough? Bizarre.

I would suggest ordering the xlr and the adapter. My 2 cents.

Go with the dual plug. AW was dual plug fleet wide. When we merged with US we adopted their standard, the Airbus plug, because they were the larger fleet. The AW airplanes were retrofitted with the original standard Airbus plug. Now, we’re back to adopting the larger fleet (AA) standard and will undoubtedly retrofit the entire fleet to uniformity...the dual plug.

Do folks use the Bose A20? I already have a new one from uncle Sam and just plan on starting out with that. I begin new hire training next month so don't know which jet I'll be on yet. I imagine I need an adapter since the A20 I have is single plug.

I’d just pick up an adapter. I just flew with a skipper who used the A20 and he was obviously real happy with them. I have the “on the ear” David Clark...in hindsight I kind of wish I’d gone with an “over the ear”. I am already enjoying mild tinnitus. See you in January!
