Default PBS bidding with VAC and Recurrent in JAN?

I’m still fairly new to PBS, and far from understanding all the ins and outs. I’ve been told it makes sense to bid RSV when you have VAC, as it goes on top of your RSV guarantee. I don’t really mind RSV anyway. In Jan I have recurrent towards the end of the month. Would it still make sense to bid RSV for the month?

If it matters, I do commute, so I’m guessing that I will have the new 5-day footprint. The VAC is a single block in the middle of the month.

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

CQT will be absorbed by the reserve guarantee, so no additional pay. However, it will reduce the days available for reserve

With our low training pay, bidding reserve is preferable in a training month and vacation makes it even better. If you don't mind it, go reserve IMO.

All that credit affects what reserve bucket you are in as well which will further reduce how much reserve flying you'll do.

I have bid vacation and training and LCR in a month. A couple of key points.

First, training in the beginning of the month is better than the end because it counts toward reserve flying and will put you in a higher group. Training at the end is wasted. Vacation earlier is better for the same reason.

You can actually bid 1 day of reserve on in front of you training and 1 day after...ie reserve on Monday, training Tuesday thru Saturday reserve on Sunday. You are nearly useless on the two reserve days, so a great way to get 2 more days off effectively.

If you commute I’d much rather bid a line in a vacation month. 3 4 day trips and you credit 85 hours. If you live in base it’s a different story.

Reserve during vacation months is similar to bidding specific trips in PBS. They’re commonly misunderstood.

If you bid RSV in a vacation month, you are loosing days off.

There’s a Compass Project guide to vacation that discusses this extensively.
