LAX crashpad?

Hey y’all, I’m new to LAX and am wondering what my cheapest and best options are for commuting to RSV. RV, camper van, crashpad? Thanks in advance.

RV would be tough. Because SoCal housing is so expensive many people have taken to living in cars and old RVs. Just about everywhere in the LA area there are street restrictions to prevent that. And RV parks are expensive. I do know of a F/A who has a converted van that he uses but he has to constantly move around.

There are some crash pad web sites if you want to do that type of housing. There are also a lot of Craigslist listings for people looking for roommates. Just beware that there are a lot of false listings out there. You will quickly figure out the scams.

If you are flying out of LAX you want to be within 15 miles north or south. That’s 25 to 40 minutes in traffic at the edges. And there’s always traffic.

I lucked into renting a room south of LAX in Palos Verdes. It’s just a studio, basically a big room with a kitchenette on the back wall and a bathroom but it’s perfect for me and my f/a wife when we commute in. I even have storage for my bike and surfboard. We looked for about 3 months before we found it, places like that come up, but rarely in the beach cities. We pay just under $1500/mo.

Long Beach you can find studios all the time around $1000/mo but that’s a good hour to LAX but not a bad idea for SNA.

Camper van, hang out in the area beach parking lots that allow overnights, gym membership for working out and showering.

Housing, transportation, and entertainment all-in-one.

What airplane? The 737 has flying out of LAX/SNA/ONT* while the rest only have trips originating out of LAX. Having to cover 3 airports on reserve changes things a bit.

*Also SAN if you volunteer for that. Technically all LAX pilots cover those bases but only the 737 has trips that start at the satellites.

Any issues parking a camper van at the airport for a couple days?

We're not talking large RV, so shouldn’t be different than any other vehicle. Problems could arise if you’re leaving it there for weeks at a time, but a typical commuter schedule parking in the employee lot, and moving around on a regular basis should be fine.
