I'm happy for you that you got picked up by AA. You should use this time in between class to beef up on the importance of scope in terms of the protection of your job, and the betterment of all your fellow pilots.

What's going on at Compass is similar to the other regional-feed operations that run on a very tight shoe-string.

The financial model at just about all of the feed operations is stressed even without pandemic stress.

if the main-line carriers care about:
1. Reliability of their product
2. Quality of their product\
3. influence and control over their network

Then, maybe they may bring in more flying. Scope clauses or not....They get away with what labor has allowed them to get away with. Recall this...........RJ's were supposed to ONLY OPEN new markets for their mainline carriers, not supplement, and not replace. What's happened over the last 25 years is a bait-and-switch by mainline managements.

No one wants to see fellow professional and aspiring aviators be out of work. But, the mainline carriers put these airlines in these positions. Mainline carriers, at the end of the day negotiate the prices, profits, and wages, and financial conditions under which the regionals survive and/or thrive.

The same thing is going on in Europe right now. US Regionals/feeders are not immune to tight finances. Those operations with a stronger/and softer cushion can absorb pandemics, or whatever emergencies come their way.

Compass was simply not in a financial position (A position their benefactors put them in) to weather the storm.

It will happen to others I am afraid.

This is an example (extreme) of the RJ whipsaw at its worst . ANY RJ outfit can be shutdown on short notice . The best regional this week could be toast tomorrow . We , the mainline guys are the only ones that can possibly put a big dent in the outsourcing going forward . Sadly , I don’t think we as a group have it in us . I am damn sure not interested in any scope gives (ANY) in this latest goat rope !! I rode on compass several times and they always treated me really well . Good luck going forward .
