For those on the bottom of the seniority list, this should help you breathe easier until the end of September. Halfway through the article it talks specifically about the grants and loans to airlines in the stimulus bill: no furloughs or pay cuts are allowed.

much more of a domestic or western hemisphere airline for the next few years. Most new routes suspended, no India or Australia stuff. We'll be 70% of our Jan 1 2020 size by the end of the year. Only 4 type ratings on property this time next year. We'll furlough ~1500, but they will be recalled relatively quickly. Expect to double down on CLT/DFW/DCA, which were always the only places we really made money. These are all just my guesses, I'm not smart, but I've been studying this thing very hard. At the end of the day, we're slaves to demand, the company will not pay us to do nothing in perpetuity. What do others think?

It is quite....no....VERY possible that American Airlines comes out the other end of this no longer operating as an airline. Air travel will cease to exist in this country. I AM NOT AN ALARMIST and this is only my opinion.

I hear what you are saying but you cant fly a 319 into some of these tiny a$$ middle of nowhere destinations, or even a 190. I agree that those are far and few bw but there are still markets where 76/50 seats makes sense...and if you say, well just reduce the frequency down from 3-4 flights a day down to 2, research has shown that customers will gravitate towards the more options in most cases, however we may see a fundamental shift in consumer demand on the other side of this that makes those moves senseable. At the end of the day the airlines are going to operate markets in the most profitable way they can, plain and simple. But I am not against moving the regionals into the fold of the majors in a real way, just would hate to see it done at the expense of a fellow pilots job, whoever they fly for.
