We will only have 200-300 pilots when this travesty is over.

For those on the bottom of the seniority list, this should help you breathe easier until the end of September. Halfway through the article it talks specifically about the grants and loans to airlines in the stimulus bill: no furloughs or pay cuts are allowed.

At the end of the day, we're slaves to demand, the company will not pay us to do nothing in perpetuity. What do others think?
I think you are correct. Parkers modes-operandi when times are unsettled is to avoid getting into capacity fights and double down on what AA has that's profitable. Defend the defensible hubs reduce capacity to make a small profit and show wall street that AA can be profitable. Then in that position of reduced strength, attempt to renegotiate the debt on a longer scale. Remember most of the debt is for aircraft leases. He will tell the lessors, come and get your airplane. As of tomorrow I am going to charge you rent to park on my ramp at DFW.

It is quite....no....VERY possible that American Airlines comes out the other end of this no longer operating as an airline. Air travel will cease to exist in this country. I AM NOT AN ALARMIST and this is only my opinion.

As much as I hate to say it, but a gut feeling that all 3 big legacy carriers will come out of this as leaner, smaller entities.

We just gotta pull in scope. Park the RJs and bring all that flying back in house.

I hear what you are saying but you cant fly a 319 into some of these tiny a$$ middle of nowhere destinations, or even a 190. I agree that those are far and few bw but there are still markets where 76/50 seats makes sense...and if you say, well just reduce the frequency down from 3-4 flights a day down to 2, research has shown that customers will gravitate towards the more options in most cases, however we may see a fundamental shift in consumer demand on the other side of this that makes those moves senseable. At the end of the day the airlines are going to operate markets in the most profitable way they can, plain and simple. But I am not against moving the regionals into the fold of the majors in a real way, just would hate to see it done at the expense of a fellow pilots job, whoever they fly for.

Delta CEO already said they will be smaller and/or "different" when they come out of this storm

You are correct about the strings attached if they accept money, however the question is how much equity they will give up if they are asked to in exchange for grants. The Treasury Secretary, Steve Mnuchin, is “empowered” to ask for equity in exchange for the cash grants; the question is how much the airlines want to bite off if Mnuchin chooses to make it an exchange.
