What are the features that make the commuter clause very good?

The good thing about it is it’s simple and fairly ambiguous. There is no required number of flights, no min time required before show time, company metal not required, it counts if your car breaks down or the state closed the highway. There is no limit to how often it can be used. Of course, you don’t get paid, and you may get “counseling” If “abused”...

You will likely only get pummeled for using the commuter clause if you are a habitual user and/or you wait until the last minute to fess up. Once you know you no longer have a chance to make it, call immediately and let them know. Bad news doesn't improve with age
...or if you lie to a Chief. That won't end well either
Otherwise, you're only shorted the pay for the trip missed, and that's it

AA Pilot Recruitment was been fantastic during the hiring process and my sense is that they intend to honor CJO for all of us poolies. They've put no expiration date on my CJO, which I take as a good sign. Looking forward to being on property some day...... fingers crossed.
It is a great way to start a career with them, seeing the loyalty toward their future newhires.
