MIA base and neighborhoods

MIA AA guys are all over the place. Most guys making longer drives or commutes are for wife and kid needs, eastern Dade near beach or ICW is big $$$ and even worse now with an invasion from the NY area. I've flown with a couple middle aged newly single guys who seemed happy with the Brickell or South Beach rental condos, but not sure if it lasts long term. Single does open up many more options like the beach areas to the north.
Depends on your off work activities too. Golf, fish sail, surf, kite surf, etc. MIA central is expensive for those things and crowded. Broward too. You can write off the beach stuff living out west.
South is the Keys, great fishing and drinking. That's it as well as $$$. Farther north of FLL is Delray Beach, really cool bar and restaurant district with nearby condos. After that it's the PBI area with the 1:15-2:30 drive depending on wx and time.
Waterfront with canal for a boat? Not much for cheap. Junk house from 1965 will be pushing $1 million until your around Stuart. Might be some condo rentals with a boat slip here and there. MIA commute for AA guys is tough on own metal to CLT, DFW, ATL, MCO, TPA. One guy went to Frankfurt, heard of a FA that goes to northern Thailand.

There’s a reason Miami is a junior base. I personally cannot stand Florida. Hot, humid, insects, crowded, trailer parks galore, and crime ridden. Some people love it though, but many do not. I’d take tranquil mountain living anyday over crowded south Florida beach life. If your company has other bases, I’d consider looking at those. Just my $0.02. Some may not agree with me, but that’s my take on it.

Cut him some slack. Some guys end up catching a case of the crabs after following the tats home to the trailer park where the AC is broke and the roof leaks.
He does have a point. Unfortunately I screwed up and picked an airline without a base near a ski lift.

If you're single and no kids you want an apartment/condo in South Beach, Brickell, or Coconut Grove.
The real estate market in the area makes zero sense economically because so many foreigners park their money in Miami real estate for various other reasons. I think it's better to rent until the prices come down a bit.
If you do pick yourself up a spouse and kids and want a single family house (and don't want to do the I-95/tri-rail thing) I'd look south at Palmetto Bay. Redlands if you want to get away from people and pretend you're not in SE Florida. With both of those suggestions make sure you don't end up too close to Homestead, however.

Schools south of MIA suck, he’ll end up paying for private school. Good schools are Cooper City, Davie, Weston (FO house), Parkland (CA house), or Wellington (kinda far for me).
