This wasn’t COVID related. This was planned since at least Oct ‘19. PSA was getting IPT from CLT starting Aug ‘20.

Default AA Cx plans to suspend service to 3 cities

Joplin and Sioux City are EAS airports so AA has to ask to drop those, with Roswell they finally figured out with all the AA Jets parked there they need a way to get Mx there other than a long drive. They're in talks with the mayor of Roswell about some kind of deal.

Those two cities are a special case, while I’m sure the article is correct, those two cities were dropped from EAS subsidies because they could economically stand on their own ridership pre-covid.

I am amazed about Joplin, Mo. it is not that far (70 miles) from Springfield, Mo.

Let me know if they have pretty well rebuilt and recovered from the devastating tornado of 2011. It resulted in 158 fatalities and 1,000 injuries. It was the deadliest since detailed records have been kept since 1950. I remember it took out the main hospital.

I grew up in Kansas City (MCI) back in the dark ages when all flying was out of MKC. TWA’s overhaul base was KCK, the Fairfax airport. My mom worked for North American Aviation there. She worked parts inventory on the B-25 Mitchell.
